Composition:
The painting is freely inspired by Lake Carezza in the Dolomites. The painting shows a lake with the trees of the surrounding forest reflected in it, whith a sweeping vista of the Dolomites, with the mountains rising majestically in the distance, The mountains are shrouded in a delicate veil of mist, creating an ethereal and otherworldly atmosphere. As the sun begins to rise, its pink golden rays illuminating the peaks and casting shadows across the valleys.
Color Palette:
The color palette is soft and muted, with shades of blue and green for the lake, gray/purple, carminium, light blue, and many different shadows of "green" for the trees that as well receive the first ray of sun on the top. The mist is rendered in delicate washes of blue carminium red, green and white, creating a sense of haziness and ethereality. The rising sun is fare out of the scene.
Texture:
The texture of the painting is varied, with smooth washes of color for the mist, and far trees, and delicate details for the other fare mountains and for the trees.

Lotus's subject matter includes oceans, mountains, babbling brooks, mountain ridges and vistas, as well as people and figures. This beautiful oil painting glows with cool tranquil waters reflecting the tropical palm trees on a pool of floating lotus pads.
Peter Loftus was born in 1948, in Washington DC. He received a BFA in painting from the Maryland Institute College of Art, in 1971. In 1974, Loftus earned an MFA from the University of Pennsylvania. Drawn by the glorious California light, Loftus moved to Santa Cruz in 1975. He has lived and painted there ever since. Loftus taught at both University of California at Santa Cruz and Cabrillo Community College between 1975, through the present (at UCSC). He taught Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced Drawing, and Painting, in both oil and aqueous media.
During that time, he also sustained a rigorous exhibition schedule, showing regularly on the East and West coasts; in New York at Fischbach Gallery, and San Francisco at William Sawyer Gallery and later Hackett-Freedman Gallery. In addition, Loftus has participated in a number of group exhibitions. These include: American Realism: 20th Century Drawings and Watercolors (and accompanying book), San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, New Horizons in American Realism: Flint Institute of Arts, Flint, MI. About artist: Richard H. Tashjian
Born in Chelsea, Massachusetts. in 1926, Richard served in the U.S.N.R. World War II 1944-46 as a photographer and later graduated from the Museum School of Fine Arts in Boston, 1950. He studied design under Prof. Gyorgy Kepes at M.I.T. School of Visual Design Architectural Center Cambridge, MA. Richard’s talents resulted in a successful career in advertising art, where he worked as a commercial artist and art director for various distinguished ad agencies throughout the Boston area. For several years, he owned and operated an art studio and gallery in Watertown, MA.
While continuing to depict nature in his harmonious style that utilizes layers of color. He brings a passion for the natural world and international perspective to his paintings. His brush has rendered scenes in the Crimea and the south of France. Having moved to Santa Fe New Mexico recently he has already made canyons, mesas and skies of the Southwest his own.
