About the Item

For over a decade, Santorini has inspired Jacobson with its magical beauty and radiance. Many believe Santorini to be the location of the lost city of Atlantis. This painting expresses the eternal stillness, beauty and mystery of the island at night. The glittering lights of the villages crest the tops of the island and the reflections of the light shimmer on the dark turquoise waters of the Caldera. Jacobson creates her paintings with many layers of acrylic paint on canvas, giving her work a luminous and translucent quality. The vivid, saturated, jewel-like colors and strong compositional elements express the spiritual essence of nature. On gallery wrapped canvas. Linda Jacobson's paintings are lyrical abstractions inspired by her love of landscape and its elements: form, movement, light, and what she perceives to be its essence an energy or quality that goes beyond visual appearance. Born in Los Angeles, she received her BFA from California State College, Northridge, and graduated Summa cum Laude from the prestigious Art Center College of Design where she was mentored by pioneer California modernist Lorser Feitelson. Her work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions in galleries and museums throughout the United States and abroad, including MRG Fine Art, in Los Angeles; Gallerie Rohling, Berlin, Germany; California State University Channel Islands in Ventura; Karpeles Museum in Santa Barbara, California; BG Gallery in Santa Monica; George Lawson Gallery, Culver City; Gallery K, Wash. DC; Kathryn Markel, New York; Mt. St. Marys College, Los Angeles; Ruth Bachofner Gallery, Santa Monica; California State University, Los Angeles; Loyola University, Los Angeles; Caldera Gallery, Greece; Gallery du Theatre, Geneva; and Galerie Marquet, Paris. Her paintings are in numerous public and private collections: University of Michigan; Palm Springs Desert Museum Permanent Collection; Luckman Fine Arts Complex in Los Angeles, California; Queens Medical Center, Honolulu; Ms. Diana Zlotnick; Mr. Steve Hasenberg; Gayle Garner Roski; Lewis and Jean Wolff. Jacobson is also a noted instructor of art, having received theInstructor of the Yearaward at UCLA Extension and is currently teaching painting at Otis College of Art, Los Angeles. She also leads art seminars nationally and internationally.
