Citation - black, white, abstracted figurative, brushed ink on paper
By Andrew Lui
Located in Bloomfield, ON
Brushed ink in grey and black leads the eye up the picture plane in this 55-inch tall painting on paper. The intense movement suggestive of rearing horses in this painterly work is in keeping with Lui's theme of pilgrimage in which he explores the idea of "self-inflicted happiness" as a deliberate response to the melancholy and complexity of life. This painting is floated and framed. Framed Size: 60 × 35 inches Born in Guangzhou, China, Lui participated in the Chinese Cultural Revolution as a member of the Red Guard 1968-70 and then escaped to Hong Kong by swimming. Making his way to Toronto he studied at the Ontario College of Art and became a citizen in the late 1970s. He continued studies in the UK, and Italy where he was drawn to the dynamic Uccello's Battle of San Romano...

"Nature and Human Relationships – Embrace 5 – 50" Portrait Composition Painting
Located in New York, NY
Unorthodox; yet effective, Suki treats us to a series of works that tantalizes the imagination with bold strokes of dark and light, hinting at shapes both human and ethereal and pulling us through the two-dimensional surface of the canvas into the mysterious depths of a multidimensional world. Her works resonate with strong, masculine strokes, vibrant colors, and passionate themes. The common factor is that when looking at her pieces you can spend some time letting your mind play within each painting and you'll come away with a much richer understanding of what Suki Maguire's art has to show at a simple glance. Signed on verso. Art measures 36 x 46 inches There is a great potential for discovery in Maguire's world of symbols, but a passing glance will not do, you have to allow your gaze to linger on this part and that of each painting so that your subconscious will have the opportunity to retrieve the elusive forms that seem to be hiding within the more obvious shapes. This holds true even in those works that incorporate letters of the Korean or Latin alphabet, which serve as glyphs bearing some symbolic meaning that goes beyond the mere representation of sound. She has exhibited internationally in Seoul, Nantucket, New York and Italy. Her styles and materials have ranged from realism to abstract, from water and oil colors to acrylics and coffee grounds. Suki Maguire (Kim Jong...

Sloth, From the Seven Deadly Sins Series, Nude Figures, Oil on Watercolor Paper
Located in Chicago, IL
Seven deadly sins are the seven vices that spur other sins and further immoral behavior. First enumerated by Pope Gregory I (the Great) in the 6th century and elaborated in the 13th century by St. Thomas Aquinas, they are pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath, and sloth. Each of these can be overcome with the seven corresponding virtues of humility, charity, chastity, gratitude, temperance, patience, and diligence. It is clear that as a subject matter, David Becker prefers the seven deadly sins to the virtues! Surrealist Large Painting Royal College Art LGBTQ+ Female Blue Birds Paradise
Located in Norfolk, GB
Isabel Rock is a creator of contemporary fairy tales. A graduate of the Royal College of Art in London, her work is an explosion of strange occurrences while a surreal narrative takes the audience on a journey into the imagination. In October 2023 Isabel won the Evelyn Williams Drawing Award at the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize. Known as the UK’s most prestigious annual open exhibition for drawing; part of the prize is a solo show at Hastings Contemporary, scheduled for 2024. Whilst Isabel always has a tale to tell for each of her images, you may or may not choose to go on the journey with her or you may indeed have a different story, one of your own that jumps off the page at you, that that you decide to follow. Artwork Details: Paradise Island, 148x111.5cm, ink, acrylic paint and mixed media on paper, 2013 Artwork Provenance: from the Artist Studio photo credits, Isabel working, black and white shots, James Brown In Isabel's own words: Paradise island It truly was paradise on paradise island. No plastic bottles touched these shores, no human hand had exploited the rich minerals and resources of the land, no complicated administrative tasks affected the residents. The birdmen who lived there were united in one common purpose, and that was to wait for The Egg. They waited day and night in a fever of excitement, hours and days and sometimes weeks went past and they did not grow weary, this only increased their anticipation. They stretched their arms to the sky and called for The Egg to bless them by falling. Deep in the hearts of the birdmen was a thing never spoken of and rarely even aknowledged to themselves, a common secret, that when The Egg actually fell it was not as good as the anticipation of it. *Please note we are happy to ship this work rolled in an art tube. Whilst the work is on heavy duty art paper and mixed media, the artist is happy that the painting will be fine rolled in a tube. This is a more cost effective and environmentally sound method of shipping. Shipping via this method is free. About Isabel Rock and her work: Taking inspiration from Japanese woodblock prints and Indian miniature painting Rock has developed a unique collage technique that combines bold structures with large-scale woodblock prints and intricate detailing. The subject is a grand mixture of humour, drama, hidden morals, fanciful characters, modern culture, mythical beings and fantastical situations. Rock creates a world that pulls you in and demands your attention. Quality of line is paramount, the drawings are created using a dipping pen and acrylic ink. An essential tool is a squirrel’s hair brush that gives incredible fine lines and was purchased on her travels in India. Born in Hammersmith, London in 1981, Rock knew her destiny was to be an artist. Studying Fine Art Printmaking at The University of Brighton and graduating with First Class Honours in 2004 she went on to do a Masters Degree at The Royal College of Art in London, continuing her studies in printmaking and drawing, graduating in 2008. Her first solo show at Bearspace Gallery in Deptford, London in April 2009 sold out and was the beginning of a career that continues to rise. Rock participated in the first ever India Art Fair represented by Art 1821...

Artist Biography - Kevans’ paintings reflect her interests in power, manipulation and the role of the individual in inherited belief systems. She looks at alternative histories and how they relate to current issues and creates what she describes as ‘anti-portraits’ that may or may not be based on real documentation. She believes that, as her work is concept driven, sometimes the actual similarity to the person depicted in the work is irrelevant.
