About the Item
Corinna Modigliani Ritratto Di Bambina dated Rome 1904 and signed, Italian oil painting on canvas depicting an elegantly dressed little girl in a white and light blue half-sleeved dress, white slippers, and light blue stockings. The child is portrayed standing in the quiet of domestic life, in a garden in front of a low wall. The charm of this early 20th-century Roman area painting is related precisely to the dreamy gaze of the maiden with fan and to a skillful technique in the use of color. Oil colors are here treated using a very delicate drafting that gives us a balanced and harmonious composition, where the green and dark tones of the background contrast with the vaporous and luminous light of the elegant dress.
The painting bears the signature at lower left Corinna Modigliani Rome 1904, comes from a private collection in Milan and is in good condition, in first cloth with the wooden frame repainted in light ivory. The measurements indicated are those of the frame footprint, while the frame alone measures 90 cm x 50 cm.
Corinna Modigliani italian artist-Rome 1871-1959-daughter of an affluent Roman Jewish middle-class family, though she cultivated both landscape and still life, favored in particular the portrait genre favored in his production the genre of portraits of subjects related to childhood, with oil works characterized by a lively technique and a palette of tried-and-true skill intended mainly for private commissions. His works are conserved in the Municipal Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rome.
