The painting, created circa 1950, is rendered in vibrant hues of orange, purple, pink, yellow, red, green, and blue, creating a dynamic and bold visual experience. The piece is signed by the artist in the lower right corner and titled and dated on the verso. Medium: Oil on board Dimensions: 36 x 24 inches (image size), framed 37 ½ x 25 ¼ x 1 ½ inches Frame: Vintage gray-toned wood frame Provenance: Estate of Edward Marecak About the Artist: Edward Marecak, a celebrated figure in Denver's art community, was known for his mastery in various mediums, including lithographs, ceramics, stained glass, and paintings. Born to Slovakian immigrant parents in Ohio, Marecak’s early exposure to Eastern European folk art greatly influenced his distinctive artistic style. His work often fused figuration with abstraction, using bold patterns and vivid colors, particularly his signature "Marecak red." Marecak’s artistic journey included studying at the Cleveland Institute of Art, Cranbrook Academy, and the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, before becoming a respected educator. He taught at the Denver Public Schools for 25 years, fostering the next generation of artists while continuing to create his own work. His love for vibrant, pulsating color and flat patterns over traditional perspective led to captivating compositions that are still admired today. In the 1960s, his work gained national attention, with notable exhibitions in Beverly Hills and Denver. His art was also influential in the world of fashion, with designer Adele Simpson incorporating his color patterns into her collections. Despite achieving success in the art world, Marecak shied away from mainstream galleries in his later years, preferring a quiet, dedicated life focused on his art and personal philosophy. His legacy is now celebrated posthumously, with retrospectives at the Kirkland Museum and continued recognition as one of Colorado's most important modernist artists.
