About the Item
The painting "Broken Piece" immediately draws the viewer's attention with its vivid portrayal of a lady who seems to be lost in her thoughts. The emotional depth captured in her expression is palpable. Her eyes, reflecting a mixture of sorrow, curiosity, and longing, invite viewers to delve into the complexities of her inner world. She appears almost ethereal as if she is a mere fragment of a larger emotional landscape.
The lady in the painting is surrounded by an open garden, which serves as a metaphorical representation of her own emotions. The garden, bathed in soft, warm colors, is rich in symbolism. It represents the vastness of human emotions, stretching endlessly in all directions. Its openness is both liberating and overwhelming, mirroring the endless possibilities and challenges that life presents.
The use of rough brush strokes in "Broken Piece" adds texture and depth to the painting. It enhances the sense of emotional turmoil within the lady's mind. The roughness of the strokes seems to echo the turmoil and confusion she might be experiencing, while also highlighting the beauty that can be found in imperfection.
One of the most intriguing aspects of this artwork is the title, "Broken Piece." It invites viewers to ponder the nature of the lady's emotional state. Is she a broken piece of a larger puzzle, trying to find her place in the world? Or does the title refer to the fragmented and intricate nature of human emotions, each one a piece of a larger, complex whole?
Muideen Abdulkadir's "Broken Piece" reminds us that emotions are multifaceted and often defy easy explanations. It invites viewers to engage in a process of introspection and empathy, encouraging them to reflect on their emotional journeys. The painting serves as a mirror to our feelings, experiences, and moments of emotional wonderment.
Muideen Abdulkadir's "Broken Piece" is a masterful exploration of the human soul's complexities. Through the use of vivid colors, rough brush strokes, and a poignant subject, the artist invites us to peer into the emotional world of the lady in the garden and, by extension, our inner landscapes. It is a testament to the power of art to evoke emotions, spark introspection, and leave a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to gaze upon it. "Broken Piece" is not just a painting; it is a window into the heart and mind of both the artist and the observer, a testament to the enduring power of art to transcend language and touch the soul.

Muideen Abdulkadir is an artist and a clinical psychologist with a specialty in HIV prevention. His fondness for drawing started during his formative years in primary education. He was kicked out of art classes cause he wasn't doing well. However, he continued practicing till his parents sent him to the College of Education Maiduguri to study fine and applied art. During this period he participated in two National Gallery Of Art Competitions in Nigeria and came first runner-up during my third attempt for the tertiary category.
His surgeon in art after he participated in Atrium: The Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, National Art Competition, fetched him a professional spot among Nigerian artists in 2013. Due to his line of study in mental health, he started to see clients with psychosocial issues as a result of his work in HIV programming, thus he discovered painting as a therapeutic interpretation of everyday encounters by individuals in society. This led him to develop his style of contemporary painting called "Broken" which interprets various emotions.
