About the Item

The “Pathway to Light” by Sophia Chalklen invites the viewer into a serene woodland scene where the delicate beauty of nature takes center stage. Using oil on canvas, Chalklen captures a peaceful path winding through a forest, with bluebells carpeting the ground. The light filters through the tall trees, casting dappled shadows over the vibrant blue flowers, creating a harmonious blend of warmth and coolness. The soft, atmospheric glow in the background adds depth to the composition, enhancing the tranquil feeling of the scene. Chalklen’s use of color is both vibrant and soothing. The rich blues of the bluebells contrast with the varied greens of the foliage, with the warm browns of the earth beneath the path grounding the piece. The artist’s blending of hues creates a soft, naturalistic effect that mirrors the calmness of the forest. The interplay between the light and shadow gives the work a dynamic energy, evoking a sense of movement and life within the stillness of the forest. The work draws the viewer into this lush, quiet space, inviting them to pause and take in the peaceful beauty of nature. Chalklen’s signature style—conveying nature’s quiet elegance through rich, layered color—shines in The Bluebells. The intricate details of the flowers and the textured brushstrokes in the foliage offer a tactile quality that almost makes you feel as though you’re standing in the scene itself. This piece captures the fleeting beauty of a moment in nature, immortalizing it with a gentle yet powerful sense of realism. This exceptional artwork is currently on display and available for sale at Signet Contemporary Art Gallery and online. Artist biography: Sophia is a Fine Art Contemporary Wildlife and Nature Artist, specialising in high quality oil paintings. Known for her powerfully evocative paintings created through vibrant colours, light and intricate detail, with some of her art embellished with 24ct Gold and Silver leaf and it has been said many times to have “a spiritual feel to it”. The creative journey began at Winchester school of Art where she completed her BA specialising in Textile design. This led to a job as a textile designer for various big-name high-street stores, designing soft furnishings and ceramics. Soon after Sophia was head hunted for a job as a Fine jewellery designer for the Crown Jewellers Asprey and Garrard, working with Royalty, celebrities and the elite. Sophia’s intricate designs included tiaras, Jewellery suites, rings, watches, Faberge eggs, enamel clocks and much more. Sophia also created many impressive pieces for middle eastern royalty. She studied gemmology, became an expert in her field and her attention to detail leant well to her career. After starting a family Sophia decided to work for herself and set up a small business teaching art to a wide range of ages ranging from 5 years old to 90-year- olds in care homes. It was very rewarding and the students looked forward to her classes. Having always being creative, her fine art career was born out of the pandemic. During this time Covid had a profound impact on her health and she became quite unwell for over 6 months and was unable to walk. In order to mentally cope, Sophia decided to paint and began to build up her own work as an Artist. She began to display her work on social media which allowed her work to be seen and this led to her gaining regular commissions, as well as being approached by gallery owners, who she now works with as a full-time artist selling in galleries around England. Wildlife plays a big part in Sophia’s Art and supporting various charities that work in conservation. She is delighted to be in a position to be able to raise money through her art sales and make sizeable donations to them, which is very important to her. Sophia finds both art and her appreciation of nature an amazing form of therapy and escapism, deep happiness for her comes from being able to combine the two. Satisfaction from finishing a challenging piece is highly rewarding in itself, but Sophia says, “the best part is when a client truly connects emotionally to my art”, then I know the value of joy that piece will continually bring.

The Way Home To You, Forest Artworks, Green Contemporary Landscape Panting
By Adele Riley
Located in Deddington, GB
Adele Riley is a British contemporary land and seascape artist working primarily in acrylic and acrylic inks. Her artistic process usually begins with a loose idea of what she wants to create. She strives to capture the emotional content of the subject, letting the inks create a type of chaos by doing what they naturally want to do. ‘This is an exciting part of the process,’ says Adele, ‘As it always reveals something magical, letting me know what I should do or how I should react next.’ Adele is fascinated by light and colour, believing people connect to colour just as much as to the subject matter. People are drawn to different energies in different colours, and she loves to play with this theory in her work. She often starts her paintings ‘plein air’, sometimes in local forests or on the beaches of Cornwall and Devon, but her passion is to paint intuitively, recalling the light, atmosphere, sounds and feel of a scene. ‘My aim is to capture the essence of a place rather than produce a literal interpretation. I want to create a personal and emotional narrative between my work and the viewer.’ ‘With light there is always colour. I constantly chase light...
