About the Item

"Rolling Pin" contemporary realist oil painting on wood panel. The wood plank on which "Rolling Pin" is painted, is left untouched around the edges; The natural wood grain visible. A rectangle of crisp white paint is applied to the wooden plank. Then, a wooden rolling pin, is painted, centrally on the wooden plank. The grain of wood on the rolling pin, was painted, and juxtaposed with the natural wood grain of the plank, stirs thoughts in the viewer. Artist Bio Anthony Ackrill was born in Alaska in 1958, but spent most of his childhood in Florida and Ohio. He decided to pursue painting at a relatively late age. Subsequently, he studied graphic design, and worked as an art director at an established advertising agency. In addition, he designed his own line of humorous greeting cards, which sold internationally. Following this period, Mr. Ackrill began to study drawing and painting on his own. After winning awards in several local and regional art contests, as well as selling some of his paintings, he sought a more formal education to help develop his talent. Mr. Ackrill found an excellent atelier-styled school for artists in Florence, Italy and enrolled in late 1995, at the age of 37. In his second year in Florence, Mr. Ackrill began teaching anatomy to his fellow students, and then also taught drawing and painting. After five years of painting and teaching in Florence Italy, he returned to Florida, where he now has his own studio.

"Spatula on Blue" - Oil painting, trompe l'oeil american realist kitchen utensil
By John Morfis
Located in Sag Harbor, NY
A dark, yet crisp tromp-l'oeil depiction of a spatula. Morfis makes beauty out of the ordinary objects that we use everyday. Beacuse of varnish, the painting is difficult to photograph. The navy color is dark, but brightens with a spotlight on the painting. Framed in a modern black wood frame. Signed "J.Morfis" lower left ARTIST BIO John Morfis was born in Glen Cove, Long Island in 1976. His humble beginnings made pursuing a career in art difficult and paradoxically necessary. Fixated on making things aesthetically pleasing, John made an extreme departure from his family life when he chose to base his life on art. Surrounded by mechanics, welders, and otherwise trade workers John had a tough time expressing his interest in a world much more utilitarian and much less expressive and impractical. With an extraordinary desire to be an artist and a grant awarded, John was able to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a concentration in painting from the University of Hartford in 1998. While there John studied oil painting under American realist Stephen Brown...
