About the Item

"Winter Table" is a Neo Impressionist rustic still life of fresh Tuscan ingredients. A Fiorentina Steak, Moka pot, red wine, sliced-into cheese, oranges, and artichokes really situate us in the winter Tuscan countryside. Fenske always paints in these long effortless-looking strokes that result in a dreamy space on canvas that transport the viewer to a slower, old-fashioned way of life. Simple moments are heightened and romanticized in Fenske’s work, which recalls an important tenant of 19th century impressionist movement. They often sought to elevate the everyday person in their work-a-day life, to offset the prior centuries when artists eyes were mostly focused on wealthy and powerful clients in their finery. Fenske creates an image that celebrates inter-species affection—a moment almost every human can relate to. Fenske’s commitment to the universality of the human experience, regardless of temporal rank is just one of the many ways his work is profound and timeless. Artist Bio Ben Fenske (b. 1978) although a native of Minnesota, and has been working and living in Sag Harbor, New York and Florence, Italy for the last 15 years. An oil painter in the spirit of the 19th and 20th century impressionists, he often chooses informal and contemporary scenes with an implied narrative. His work, which features brash and suggestive brushstrokes, delights in light and color. Fenske has been the subject of countless national articles, most notably the American Artist Magazine which included him as one of the Best 25 Living Artists in 2012.
