About the Item

Charles Wehringer’s artistic talent developed early in life, in historic Oyster Bay, Long Island. Although mostly self-taught, he attended the Art Student’s League of New York. Charles liked to paint on wood, like the old masters. His colorful paintings of farm scenes and fruit and vegetable still life’s are inspired by childhood memories. Painted in a realistic primitive style, they have been exhibited and sold at the Museum of American Folk Art and at leading firms, including: Bergdorf Goodman, Bloomingdale’s, Lord and Taylor, W. & J., Sloane and Abercrombie ad Fitch. Also, Charles’ paintings have been in miniature room settings for Cartier’s Fifth Avenue windows. They were featured by WCBS-TV News in April 1982.He has been represented by the James Hunt Barker Galleries located on Worth Avenue in Palm Beach Florida. Charles was a member of the Salmagundi Club at47th Avenue and is on the Board of Directors of the Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibit. He is listed in Who’s Who in American Interior Design. Extensive foreign travel has influenced his work, as reflected in his drawings and paintings of local scenes in England, France, Holland, Denmark and Switzerland. His paintings are in popular demand internationally and are in private collections throughout the world. They have received awards in the Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibit and in the Promenade Art Show of the Brooklyn Museum Arts and Culture Association and the Salmagundi Club. He has also exhibited in the Gracie Square Art Show of the Carl Schurz Park Association, the Park Arts Exhibits on Central Park South, and New York University Gallery’s small works exhibit, juried by Allan Ste. His work is in corporate collections including those of Campbell Soup, Dreyfus, H.J. Heinz and Johnson & Johnson.
