About the Item
Ginny Williams brings wit and charm to Lucky and the New Yorker, a contemporary still life infused with bold pops of color. A bright yellow parakeet perches proudly atop a celadon-green teacup, flanked by three sunlit lemons that echo the bird’s radiant plumage. Behind the arrangement, the oversized, graphic letters spelling “NEW YORK” lend a modern, urban edge to the composition.
Williams’ crisp realism meets playful composition, balancing fine detail with striking design elements. At 16 x 16 inches, this compact yet impactful painting is a collector’s gem—equally at home in chic city lofts or eclectic, design-forward interiors.
Ginny Williams painting, bird still life, parakeet with lemons, New York contemporary art, small collectible oil painting, modern realist still life, colorful wall art, original by Ginny Williams.
Known for her figurative and allegorical works, Williams brings emotional depth and visual intrigue to every painting. This square-format piece is perfect for collectors drawn to contemporary symbolism, and its scale makes it ideal for intimate spaces like a study, powder room, or reading nook.
We were immediately drawn to the thoughtfully painted work, the clever titles and the rich, deep hues. And when we got to know the artist, we were equally charmed by her delightful wit, her sensibilities as an artist, her depth of knowledge and her modesty. This one’s got it all and we are honored to represent her.
GC Williams has a BA in art history and began her artistic career as a self-taught artist. She subsequently studied at several classical ateliers including 4 years at the Academy of Realist Art, Boston. Influenced heavily by her studies of and love for the art of the northern European Renaissance, she creates still life paintings that employ chiaroscuro and symbolism to point beyond themselves to more enduring truths. Just as the still life masters of long ago used everyday objects to convey timeless messages pertinent to the culture of the day, Williams’ works often have underlying symbolism in the placement and combination of objects she chooses to paint. With tight renderings and playfulness she attempts to draw the viewer beyond an initial appreciation of a pretty picture into a deeper engagement and understanding of the language of the still life.

Ginny Williams
Ginny Williams is an American artist currently living and working in New England. Her art training began at an early age when she was given the opportunity to study with working artists as part of her elementary and secondary education. In college, while auditing painting classes on the side, she chose to earn her degree in art history-something she sees as highly valuable to her development and career as an artist. It was during these studies that she gained an appreciation for the broad scope of artistic expression over the centuries. She has a particular fondness for the northern European artists of the 17th and 18th centuries alongside much art of the late 19th century. She finds inspiration in artists’ ability to imbue everyday objects and scenes of daily life with a dignity and meaning above what is gained with a cursory glance. In her work, Williams strives to make pieces both beautiful, thoughtful, and able to speak to contemporary life despite their traditional style. Initially self-taught, Williams studied at several classical ateliers over the course of ten years, learning the methods and materials employed for centuries by artists. Her work has been shown at galleries around the country and she is currently represented at galleries in Atlanta, Cleveland, Portsmouth and Wenham. Williams maintains a studio in Wenham, MA, as well as one in Amesbury, MA, alongside her husband, the painter Donald Jurney. “My work is about little moments of beauty that comprise our existence if we will but pay attention, as well as the things and the relationships that tie us all together as people living, breathing, and experiencing life on the same planet. Whether it is the glint of light on an object; growing things, made objects, or the quiet glance of a figure, I enjoy finding interesting interactions between objects, people, and space. I strive to create a story that the viewer can enter, and interpret alongside me. In this we become partners in the creation of art.”
