Signed lower left & titled verso.
A printmaker and painter in abstract style who used wide brush marks, Henry Kallem was born in Philadelphia. His father was Morris Kallem, a portrait painter, with whom he studied, and his brother was sculptor Herbert Kallem. Henry Kallem's studio was in New York City, and he and his associates were a part of a group of modernists who called themselves 'the 28th Street Group of Modernists' because they hung around the Henry and David Rothman Frame Shop on 28th Street. Kallem and others of this group also spent much time in the summers painting in Provincetown and Monhegan Island. He was a member of the National Society of Painters in Casein and exhibited widely including at the Pennsylvania Academy. (Source: Askart)

His father was Morris Kallem, a portrait painter, with whom he studied and his brother was sculptor Herbert Kallem. Kallem's studio was in New York City and he and his associates were a part of a group of modernists who called themselves the 28th Street group of modernists because they hung around the Henry and David Rothman Frame Shop on 28th Street. Kallem and others of this group also spent much time in the summer painting in Provincetown and Monhegan Island. He was also a member of the National Society of Painters in Casein and exhibited widely including at the Pennsylvania Academy, the 1939 New York World's Fair and the Pepsi Cola Exhibition of 1947 where he won first prize for his painting Country Tenement. This award caused consternation because of his abstract style and Life magazine, August 1948, ran an article referencing the award with the headline Freak Painting Prizes. Kallem was also a teacher in his studio and in a private school in Roslyn, New York, and at the New York City YWCA.

Gaston Sebire was born August 18, 1920, in Saint-Samson Calvados. He was a painter of landscapes, seascapes, still lifes and flowers. Sebire was also an engraver, pastel artist and painter of theatre decorations. He settled in Paris in 1951. In 1953 he created the costumes and decorations for l'Ange Gris, with music by Debussy, for the Ballets of the marquis de Cuevas.
He lived and worked in Normandy and participated in numerous group exhibitions, including: Salon of Independents, Paris Salon of Tuileries, Paris Comparisons Salon since 1962, Paris Salon of French Artists since 1964, Paris. He appeared at other groupings in London with Lorjou and Clave, in Munich, Washington, Japan, and different exhibitions of the School of Paris at the Charpentier Gallery in Paris in 1953, 1954, a1955, 1956, 1946, 1958 and 1962, at the Biennial of the Jeunes au Pavilon of Marsan in 1957.
