Artist Ingrid Smuling, 80 years in August '24, is still most in her element when she is painting in her beautiful studio in the middle of Dutch Government city The Hague.
The small works of this 'Grande Dame of the small still life' remain of high quality. Smuling knows how to turn an 'ordinary' pot into something beautiful that makes you pause in amazement and admiration.
Pots of all kinds combined with flowers in the most diverse colors arranged in 1000s of visible keys. However, the keys are only visible if you stand with your nose against the work (with reading glasses).
Walking away from the work, the object suddenly takes center stage in a space that offers peace and demands attention.

Ingrid Smuling
Ingrid Smuling is an artist and has won a wide audience as a painter of contemporary still lifes. In her realistic still lifes, preferably in a modest format, she creates tranquil images of objects observed with love, in combination with flowers and fruits. In her way, Smuling creates a unique atmosphere in a subtle play of light and shadow. The paintings exude a clear and serene atmosphere. The fabric expression shows her knowledge of the craft to a large extent. Smuling has a very personal style of painting, using a perfect balance between realism and figuration. With a subtle but still visible painting test, she knows how to create charm and atmosphere in her paintings like no other. Smuling followed her education at the Royal Academy for Visual Arts in The Hague.
