About the Item
Frame: 24 1/2 x 37 in.
Realist painter John Falato is known for the stunning detail of his vividly-rendered landscape paintings depicting such timeless subjects as country farms, rowboats along the shoreline and autumn trees ablaze in color. From preliminary graphite drawings and photographic reference shots, he formulates a truly remarkable composition and focal point for each work. This slow process yields masterful works in oil, most of which are on panel. His brush strokes are extremely thin to convey the detail needed in his unique technique. The super-realism of his work portray images in a way that even today's high-resolution digital photographs fail to capture, further demonstrating this artist's mastery. This painstaking process results in few paintings each year, but those produced are each incredible that they leave a lasting impression with the viewer.
A Connecticut resident, John Falato has coupled his career as a painter with that of a Fine Arts professor, having taught at the following institutions: Silvermine College of Art, Greens Farms Academy, and Paier College of Art. He received his own instruction in Fine Arts from Paier College of Art and the University of Hartford (B.F.A.). Falato's painting Weir Farm (Award of Merit Winner, National Academy of the Arts) was featured in the 2000 publication Arts for the Parks (North Light Books). His work has also appeared in Yankee Magazine (1986).
John Falato has been recognized for his work with several awards including: the Mervin Honig Memorial Award from Allied Artists of America (1990); the National Academy of the Arts Award for Excellence in the Art for the Parks Competition of 1991; and the A.E. Labutis Klue Award from the American Artists Professional League.

The Ruse
By Randall Mooers
Located in Fairfield, CT
My paintings begin with a serious sense of play, both in the staging and the creating of the compositions. It is at this beginning stage that I operate under the Dadaist dictate that “anything can be art”, and at the same time I seek out a balanced and harmonious composition by way of line, shape, and color. I work according to my whimsy, sometimes seeking to assert some form of narrative however personal or ambiguous, and other times I am simply satisfied with the hint of a human presence.
Once I have my compositions the paintings then very quickly become about work, a very labor intensive work that forces me to focus my mind and slow things down (which I feel is relevant especially in this day and age of high-speed everything). A great amount of effort is spent on trying to get to the highest level of finish that is possible according to my current skill level.
For inspiration I have drawn from the past four centuries of object specific paintings, from the ontbijtjes (laid tables) of the 17th Century Dutch masters such as Willem Kalf, Jan Davidsz de Heem, Abraham van Beijeren...
