2014
About the Item
A wonderful mixed media: acrylic painting featuring two vents that existed on a historic building from Pier 70 in San Francisco. The vents are now gone, as the old buildings are undergoing mass changes in the name of progress. Soon, the 'Dog Patch" region will be unrecognizable as the old shipyard is being dismantled to make way for profitable new hi tech construction. While the artist captures scenes around her, the Pier 70 series considers the earlier San Franciscans — the people who worked in the shipyard — and reflects days gone by. Acrylic paint and mixed media: Ink, gouache, dry pigment, pen, and colored pencil on paper. Comes in a pristine museum quality pale wood frame with all archival materials. Artwork dimension are aprox 16 x 16 inches. Outer dimension of the frame is 23 x 23 inches. A wonderful, graphic and complex original work of art by Kim Frohsin, who is associated with the Bay Area Figurative movement - third generation.
Kim Frohsin began exhibiting in the San Francisco Bay Area in the early 1990s, and in 1993 was included with Nathan Olivera, Manuel Neri and Stephen De Staebler in an exhibit of "Four Figures from the Bay." With Wayne Thiebaud as the juror, she won the California Society of Printmakers' Award in 1996, and the following year exhibited at the de Young Museum in San Francisco in "Bay Area Art: The Morgan Flagg Collection." Frohsin is a multidisciplinary visual artist, who is at home with painting, drawing, monoprintIng, and mixed media. Her subjects include the female figure as well as mundane ''objects" and series — including ‘Cautionary Tales’ and ‘Portraits of Numbers’— that attract her attention, and which are most often autobiographical in nature.
