About the Item

Lowell Nesbitt's paintings are in most major museum collections. He is the artist that NASA selected to commemorate the Apollo Moon missions over 50 years ago. In the 1950s he dabbled in Abstract Expressionism for a short time. However, It wasn’t until 1962, that he created his first large scale, realist, flower painting at the suggestion of friend and founding Pop artist, Robert Indiana. that Nesbitt began his journey to become one of America’s most financially and critically successful artists. Throughout the 1960’s Nesbitt explored a wide range of subjects for his paintings including flowers, landscapes, architecture, animals and many others. In addition to his financial and critical success of the early to mid 1960s which included many important museum exhibitions and commissions, it was the late 1960s and onward that brought Nesbitt’s career to the next level. NASA commissioned him to create paintings of the moon based on two Apollo moon missions. and later he became the official artist for the United States Department of Interior and the United States Navy. Nesbitt was also commissioned to create four flower paintings that were used as postage stamps by the United States Postal Service. This oil on Canvas painting titled "Nocturnal Yellow Lotus" was painted in 1981. It is instantly recognizable as a classic Lowell Nesbitt painting. Canvas size is 20x20" it is framed with a simple artist strip frame measuring approx. 21x21"

"3 Pears Still Life with illusions" 40x50" soft focus oil on canvas
Located in Southampton, NY
This oil painting from 1985 is priced at a fraction of the original price. It was in our storage area and we just decided to put it on sale at a price which is a fraction of the original price. These still life with illusion paintings were originally sold in New York City at the D&D building on 59th street. It was a building that only interior designers were allowed to shop at. the general public could only go in with their interior designer to select an item. This came from the Haller Gallery in that space. It was originally priced at $3500 when at the gallery in the D&D building in NYC. It is oil on canvas and in very subtle colors. The top right area of the canvas show slight lines of cracking to the paint. You can see that on one of the close up images. The pale thick colors (The illusions) give a 3d floating look. We have another Still Life with 4 Pears also on sale this week.

Lotus Number Four (Hard Edge Floral Still Life Painting of Lotus Leaves)
By Frank DePietro
Located in Hudson, NY
30 x 24 x 1 inches oil on canvas Inspired by close observations of the natural world and encounters with still moments that give us pause. Lines, shapes and colors encountered in nature, reveal the cycles of decay and regeneration that are life’s constant state of change. The work has a quiet, meditative quality. The subject is portrayed in a manner true to their existence in a specific time and place and selected based on considerations of visual relationships to formal elements of painting. Aspects of photo realism, hard edge and color field techniques are utilized to isolate the uniqueness of the subject’s detail, as well as emphasize flatness and illusion of depth within the two-dimensional space of the painting. About the artist: Frank DiPietro was born and raised in Scranton PA. He received a Bachelor of Art from Bloomsburg University in 1997, majoring in both Painting and Ceramics with a minor in Art History. In 2000 he earned a degree in Art Education from Moore College of Art and Design while continuing his studies in painting. Midnight Flowers II / oil on panel
By Stephanie Peek
Located in Burlingame, CA
'Midnight Flowers II' from visual artist Stephanie Peek, who makes her home in California, is beautifully rendered with a sense of depth, intellect, timelessness and mystery. A lush and elegant floral wonder in deep green, white, gray, and Sienna background highlights, reflecting flora in still life. Peek has floated tulips, roses and other flowers from 17th century still life paintings through the dark smoky atmosphere of her paintings of night gardens. The dramatic light and rich colors refer to the work of Dutch painter Rachel Ruysch...
