About the Item
Born in Philadelphia, Marguerite Stuber Pearson was the daughter of a confectioner and movie-theater owner. She survived a bout of polio at age 16 and was confined her to a wheelchair for most of her life. She spent most of her adulthood and career in Rockport, Massachusetts.
Pearson studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, under Aldro Hibbard, Harry Leith-Ross, and other Boston School artists. One of her earliest shows was held in 1924 at the Somerville Public Library to a positive reception, and she became well known in particular for her portraits of women. This little gem is oil on linen and signed in the upper right.
