About the Item

Created by artist Patrick Nevins in 2025, “Calcium” is an original, handmade oil on board that forms part of his engaging Elements Series. Measuring 6 x 6 x 0.12 inches, and presented in a complementary black frame (8.25 x 8.25 inches), this work stands as a testament to Nevins’s refined technique and thoughtful conceptual approach. The focal point is a meticulously rendered conch shell, seemingly suspended before the chemical symbol and atomic details for calcium (Ca, 40.08). Through this juxtaposition of natural and scientific imagery, Nevins underscores the invisible bonds that connect our everyday world with foundational elemental properties. Nevins’s careful brushwork captures the shell’s delicate textures and warm hues, accentuating the organic structure in contrast to the crisp typographic background. This harmonious interplay of realism and clean design creates an inviting visual tension, inviting viewers to contemplate nature’s intricate relationship with science. “Calcium” exemplifies the spirit of the Elements Series, in which each composition references a specific element and a related organic form, bridging art and chemistry. Acquired directly from the artist’s studio, this painting is in pristine condition. The deep black frame amplifies the work’s contemporary aesthetic while safeguarding the board beneath a sturdy yet elegant finish. Collectors and enthusiasts will appreciate “Calcium” not only for its delicate craftsmanship and engaging thematic focus but also for the intriguing dialogue it sparks about the underlying components of our physical realm. About the artist: Born and raised in Townsend, Massachusetts, Patrick has been drawing and sketching as far back as he can remember. Although always interested in art, it wasn't until after service in the Marine Corps that he enrolled at the College of Charleston with a focus on studio art and painting. Initially drawn to the beauty of the female form, Patrick has been refining his art and playing with different subject matter but always striving for realism. In recent years, he has found a real interest in still life and the genre of Trompe' l'oeil.
