About the Item
Original Painting by Steve Mills.
Steve Mills (b. 1959, Boston, MA) received his BA in 1982 from Bridgewater State College in Massachusetts. Known for his photorealist aesthetic, Mills began his painting career by depicting landscapes of Martha's Vineyard. In time, he discovered his passion for the still life genre, focusing on the intricate details of subjects ranging from glass marbles to Wall Street Journal newspapers.
Mills continuously pushes the limits of his hyperrealist precision, often spending up to 700 hours perfecting the images in his paintings. About his process he says: "I like to challenge myself to the point that I get excited seeing what can be achieved with paint…going beyond the limitations of photography and capturing it." Mills also infuses his paintings with subtle narrative meaning that promotes introspection. He adds, "After seeing my work, I want the viewer to see that something mundane can be surprising and appreciated with a new perspective, because it's painted in such a way that they can't believe it is actually a painting."
Mills has had many solo shows since the 1980s. His work has been acquired by a variety of private, corporate, and institutional collectors. The artist currently lives and works in Jacksonville, Florida.
