About the Item
Floral painting in the Renaissance Dutch style, the dark room behind contrasts with the illuminated flowers and vase. A riot of color with a Georgian six over six window to the right. In the window a diffused light can be seen shining through the pane of glass.
An indistinct arch frames the flowers and window in the evening light.
Likely dating to the 1800s, a time of Dutch floral style. The light may be a gaslight, or symbolic of light shining on the flowers, vase and table as beauty shines over darkness.
This painting shows some age, but has been restored and relined, the re-framed in a newer frame. making it difficult to date it. Unsigned and undated the painting is a mystery.
Of a good size, this is 34” by 30” in its three inch wide frame, with a vertical orientation.
The painting is tight and secure in its frame, ready to hang!

Country Cottage
By Abraham Hulk the Younger
Located in Hillsborough, NC
Late 19th/early 20th century oil on canvas painting in the manner of Abraham Hulk the Younger (1851-1922), this painting was acquired by Saltire Gallerie with a larger painting signed by Hulk the Younger, (just SOLD). Presented in a period decorative gilt frame, the painting is of a cottage in a woodland with cattle by a pond, a little black dog and man and a woman standing by. In the distance is a glimpse of a river and grasses, framed by trees and an overcast sky.
Hulk is renowned for his treatment of the changing season from summer to autumn, and the golden leaves and fading greens in this painting suggest this changing time of year.

Announcement in Village Square mid 19th century
Located in Hillsborough, NC
Fine 19th century oil painting of a bustling Austrian/Germanic village with horse, rider and various figures outside an Inn, attributed to Arthur Georg Ramberg (1819-1879), well known for figurative genre paintings. The rider is carrying a bugle, apparently announcing news to the people; men are sitting by the table drinking, one with a raised stein. Women walking by stop to listen, a man carrying a sack has stopped to watch the rider, people are in the Inn doorway, and one is looking out the window. Children pause their playing. The scene is under a large tree beside the Inn; a whole community waiting for news.

"Floral still-life painting"
Located in Edinburgh, GB
This elegant floral still-life painting, executed in oil on canvas, showcases a meticulously arranged bouquet of roses, lilacs, and other blossoms in a gilded vase, placed on a reflective surface. The composition exudes a sense of classic beauty, reminiscent of Dutch Golden Age still-life traditions and 19th-century European academic painting.
The rich color palette and detailed rendering of individual petals, leaves, and the metallic sheen of the vase highlight the artist’s mastery of light and texture. The soft, atmospheric background enhances the contrast between the delicate flowers and their surroundings, drawing attention to the vibrancy of the composition.
Housed in an ornate gilded frame, this painting is an exquisite decorative piece that evokes the refinement and sophistication of traditional floral art...
