About the Item

Artist Statement My paintings of everyday objects are born out of a belief that the commonplace is rich subject matter and that there’s poetry to be found in the things that surround us. Paintings of flowers, teapots, vases, bowls and pots and pans are deliberately straightforward. I strive to make paintings that are at once accessible and can reward long looking. I love art and take inspiration from a range of movements—anything from Roman wall paintings to 17th century Spanish still lifes to today’s New York art world.

By Matt Condron
Located in Fairfield, CT
Having spent many years as a photographer, Matt Condron is trained to recognize the importance of a moment or the preciousness of a fleeting opportunity. He is captivated by the idea of emptiness, as both a suggestion of solitude and as a state rife with the possibility of change and fulfillment. As a painter, he seeks out familiar, evocative scenes and concentrates on capturing the stillness of an empty room or vacant chair. His paintings can be seen as solitary, or as simply aberrant pauses between moments of frantic activity. The works are imbued with a quality of light that brings simple, content-rich objects into sharp focus. Condron attempts to establish not so much a connection to a chair or a room, but the feeling created by the wide embrace of emptiness. Ultimately, Condron creates scenes - part representation of real places, part invention from deep in his mind. The openness of his works invites the viewer to share the moment of quiet with him. By choosing places that seem to have been abruptly vacated, he attempts to awaken a connection to the moment before, or to the quietude he preserves inside himself in the form of memories. Matt Condron was born in 1967 in Simi Valley...

Gifted
By Maryann Lucas
Located in Sag Harbor, NY
A painting of carefully wrapped packages against a vibrant background. Each package is wrapped in a differently patterned paper. There is an air of anticipation, the edges close are sharply painted as if with bated breath and the edges along the horizon softly blurring out like a sigh thats been held, finally released. The vibrancy between magenta ground and the phthalo blue green background hum. The painting brings to mind the excitement of a child's birthday party, a wonderful sense of joy and nostalgia. Painting dimensions: 24 x 24 inches Frame dimensions: 28 x 28 inches Framed in a wide silver frame Artist Bio Maryann Lucas lives and works in Sag Harbor. She is primarily self-taught but has also received instruction and support from wonderful and generous members of the East End artistic community. Working exclusively in oils, Lucas sets out almost daily to create plein aire landscapes and seascapes. In her studio, she works directly from life and captures the beauty of natural light as it transforms ordinary objects into visual delights. Lucas wants her work to celebrate all that is well with this world and brilliant in this life, despite its pockets of darkness. For me, she says, I know I am in the Presence of something beautiful, when it steals my breath, silences my mind, pushes out everything else and draws me in. I trust That. I use That to guide my hands as I arrange a still life or scan a landscape to determine where to set down my easel. Ultimately, That is what drives me to paint. Becoming evermore skilled as an oil painter is another of Lucas goals. To that end she remains teachable, finding it refreshing and vital for her own growth to paint with others. She has studied with favorite artists including Michael Klein...
