Image Dimensions: 14 x 12.5 cm Lojze Spacal, also known as Luigi Spacal, was born on the Trieste Karst, at the time of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, from a family of Slovenian nationality.In 1930 he was arrested on charges of anti-fascism and confined for some time to Accettura, in Basilicata. Here he discovered his artistic vocation. In 1934 he graduated in Venice. He began to exhibit his first works in 1937. In 1942 he was again sent to confinement, this time in Abruzzo and, later, assigned to a special working battalion in Forte dei Marmi. Nevertheless, he managed to continue to exhibit his works so much that, in 1944, he set up his first solo show. In 1948 he participated for the first time in the Venice biennial. In 1958 he won the International Grand Prix "for a draftsman and engraver" at the Venice Biennale. In 1959 he received the 2nd prize at the International Biennial of Graphic Art in Ljubljana. Wonderful geometric abstract screen print abstract in black, blue and yellow by Margo Hoff (American, 1912-2008), circa 1980. Titled "Construction Over Yellow Sky" lower left and signed lower right. Unframed. Presented on mat. Image size: 22"H x 30"W. Margo Hoff was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1912—the second oldest of eight children. Stricken with typhoid fever in 1923, she was bedridden for a summer and amused herself by drawing and making paper cutouts. Her formal studies began in high school and continued during two years at the University of Oklahoma, Tulsa. In 1933 she moved to Chicago where she took classes at Hull House, the National Academy of Art and, later, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She remained in Chicago until 1960 and the city’s vibrant mid-century art scene profoundly shaped the first half of her artistic career. Hoff’s Chicago paintings were almost entirely figurative and evidence a classic mid-century modern urbanism informed by Matisse, the Mexican muralists, and other artists of the local milieu. Hoff traveled extensively throughout her life, in the United States, Central and South America, the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Europe. American, 1955-2014 Born in 1955, Tom Slaughter’s career began in 1983 with his first exhibition at the Drawing Center in New York City. Since, he has had more than 20 solo shows in cities including San Francisco, Miami, London, Vancouver, Cologne and Fukuoka, Japan. Slaughter had worked extensively with master printer, Jean Russell at Durham Press, creating numerous limited edition prints using his signature bold primary colors. He worked as a printmaker in collaboration with Durham Press for 25 years, and his editions are included in the permanent collections of MoMA and the Whitney Museum of American Art. He illustrated twelve children’s books, including “Boat Works,” “Do You Know Which Ones will Grow? ” – a 2011 Notable American Library Association book of the year – and collaborations with Marthe Jocelyn such as “ABC x 3,” “Same Same,” and “123.” These books have been translated into six languages. Slaughter also worked for the last ten seasons as the Art Director for the New Victory Theater. As a designer, he created everything from t-shirts to skateboard decks, beach towels as well as a line of wallpaper for Cavern Home.
