About the Item

Edition of 15 Signed, dated and numbered. Toned gelatin silver print Chema Madoz is one of the most important contemporary Spanish photographers, who is greatly known for his monochromatic, surreal still-lifes. He studied art history at Universidad complutense de Madrid from 1980 to 1983. While attending university for art history, he enrolled in photography classes at the Image Teaching Center and discovered his passion for the art form. He continued to hone his skills through photography workshops at the Fine Arts Academy in Madrid. Madoz manipulates reality to create visual paradoxes with everyday items. His photographs beckon the viewers’ imagination to question what is real. The photographs take on a playful gesture, a kind of visual pun. The magic he elicits is done in camera, spending days meticulously staging scenes and capturing precise angles. Madoz has been exhibiting his photographic work internationally within solo and group shows for the whole of his 30-year career. His work has been published in art books, magazines, and in self-published collections. The photographs of Madoz are highly sought after worldwide and can be found in public and private collections as the Hermés Collection inParis, Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, Marugame Hirai Museum in Japan, and the Museum of Fine Arts of Buenos Aires.
