When it happens, one needs to act quickly. In this instance, Rick opted to head to the shores of Lake Ontario near Sunnyside Beach by his home. He found this stand of trees near Sunnyside Pavilion. The fog produced an unearthly, meditative esthetic. Rick Bogacz is a Toronto-based photographer specializing in pristine, meditative black & white landscape photographs. A practitioner of the Japanese philosophy of Ma – the celebration of the space between things – Rick's goal is to evoke a calming esthetic that is both gentle and elegant. Negative space becomes as important to developing the image as the key subject matter itself. From Rick: “I do this work to try and capture a sense of tranquility and peacefulness in a world that is experiencing less of these attributes.” Rick's work has been recognized nationally and internationally – notably with an Honorable Mention at the Prix de la Photographie de Paris; Featured Artist, Salon Section of BnW Magazine, UK; Featured Artist, Noir Magazine; Featured Artist, Humana Obscura; and Featured Photographer, Fine Art, Noir Black & White Magazine Issue 5. His photographs have appeared in art galleries around the world, including PH21 Gallery, Barcelona, Spain; Blank Wall Gallery, Athens, Greece; Glasgow Gallery of Photography, Scotland; Black Box Gallery, Portland, USA; and Twist Gallery, Toronto, Canada. His first solo show at Gagné Contemporary will be in Spring 2024.

Neoclassical thought represented that art need not serve any end other than its own existence. For me, beauty is an ideal, nature is real, and art comes from the brain.
