Boys jumping into Hudson River, NYC by Ruth Orkin depicts a thrilling scene. A boy is suspended in the air after jumping off a tall building in New York City. Children are are seen standing around the scene, all with their heads turned to watch the boy mid jump. This photograph measures 12.5 x 10 in., with the paper size measuring 14 x 11 in, available in an open edition. This photograph is signed by estate, titled, dated and copyright date in pencil on artist stamp, with blind stamp on print margin. Ruth Orkin (1921 - 1985) was an American photojournalist and filmmaker. Orkin photographed many celebrities and eminent personalities amongst the likes of Einstein, Marlon Brando, Alfred Hitchcock, Doris Day, and Tennessee Williams. She travelled the world on assignments from magazines such as LIFE and Look, and her most celebrated photograph from those travels is “An American Girl in Italy” (1951). In 1952, she married fellow photographer and filmmaker Morris Engel, with whom she worked on two independent feature films. In the following decades, she taught photography in New York at the School of Visual Arts and the International Center of Photography. Orkin’s work has received many awards and been published in a number of books.
