Platinum Palladium print over Gold, Limited Edition, Figurative - Elsa Poppin

1998

About the Item

Elsa Poppin - Platinum Palladium print over 24 carat Gold leaf on vellum paper Edition 1/8 or 2/8, plus 2 AP ( Medium size ) Unframed handmade photographic reproduction on sensitised paper Still-life scene of the regulars at a vintage bar called Elsa Poppin in Rennes, Brittany, France The print is delivered mounted in an acid-free museum-quality passepartout but unframed. Signed + numbered with certificate of authenticity ( signature and title are hidden here on the photos to avoid counterfeiting ) Gold gives this photograph the distinctive feature of changing tone according to the ambient light. It is this unique ability to respond to the surrounding light that makes this photograph so visually compelling and memorable. This photography is created entirely by hand utilizing only the most valuable and rare metallic elements : gold, platinum and palladium. By incorporating them directly into the photographic medium, the artist elevates the images to a rarified realm, making each one a truly unique and invaluable artistic object. The resulting images have a luxurious like a piece of jewellery. Each print is a one-of-a-kind work of art. As the ambient light shifts and fluctuates throughout the day, the golden accents in the image respond in kind. This dynamic interplay between the photograph's metallic components and the ever-changing environmental lighting lends the work a captivating sense of depth and movement, drawing the viewer's eye on this photography and evoking a sense of wonder and discovery. This print is produced using a 19th. century process called Platinum Palladium Printing. It is produced by coating a light sensitive Platinum and Palladium solution on to translucent vellum which is then bonded with gold on the back of the print. A labor intensive and expensive process which results in a beautiful finish and longevity into the hundreds of years. This photograph was taken using a traditional film camera in the year 2006. The original film negative was then digitized, creating a digital image file specific to this technique that preserves the unique characteristics of this photographic method. Print created later. The photograph is bonded to acid free watercolour paper to eliminate the fragility of the print if it remains loose. Platinum Palladium with Gold medium size, print size ( Edition of 8 plus 2 AP ) Image size : 24,5 x 29 cm / 14 x 11,41" Print size: 29 x 33.3 cm / 11,41" x 12.99" Watercolour sheet : 30 x 40 cm / 11,81 x 15,74" Ian Sanderson (born 1951 Scotland, died 2020 Spain) was a Scottish photographer. Ian produced images over a 35 year career. For most he worked as both a Commercial and Fine Art photographer; during his last years concentrated on his personal archive. Ian and his widow Nathalie have worked for many years with alternative printing techniques in their workshop, ISP, creating Platinum Palladium, Silver Gelatin, Lith or Gum Bichromate. This culminated in a large retrospective exhibition in Barcelona which was sponsored by the Nando and Elsa Peretti Foundation. Platinum Palladium printing is a traditional photographic technique which precedes silver gelatin technique. Many photographers have worked with it in the past as Irvin Penn, Manuel Alvarez Bravo, Robert Mapplethorpe, Sebastiao Salgado o Ormond Gigli with its Platinum with gold leaf print 'Girls in the Windows'. ISP Workshop continues to captivate art lovers by creating unique and fascinating prints. A fan of photography since her early childhood, Mizrakli graduated from Yeditepe University in Istanbul, Interior Decoration Department, and continued her higher education in London, where she started out her work as a photographer. Later on, she moved to New York to further develop her career as a photographer and enrolled in classes at the Photography Department of the New York Film Academy. She received a Master’s Degree in photography in Los Angeles, where she is currently based. Mizrakli has conducted many shooting sessions for Mica Studios and Bullet Magazine in New York and had two solo exhibitions in Los Angeles. She has recently participated in the Contemporary Istanbul Exhibition (November 2013). In some of her black and white works she uses the human body only as a pictorial sign in order to create almost abstract works. First made anonymous, the female model is then cloned and circularly multiplied. The result is a kind of wheel in which the repeated human body gives birth to a new, seemingly vegetal or mineral structure. Thus, the human element seems to be transformed into different other natural...
