The Bouffant, limited edition photograph, archival ink, signed and numbered
Holding Arabesque is an inward reflection that investigates our relationship with food and nostalgia and how both are used as coping mechanisms for stability during times of crisis and stress. Inspired by the abrupt shifts brought on by the pandemic, the series captures an idyllic time in the past that is remembered as better than today. Created all in camera, I use keepsakes along with food, patterns, shapes, forms, and colors as whimsical, playful, and nostalgic tableaux, choreographed in disciplined arrangements as symbols for hope. These cheerful totems disrupt the frame with unrealistic ways in which we are normally accustomed seeing food presented. Towering precariously, they question the delicate balance between stability and uncertainty – but most importantly, giving permission as an adult, that it’s still ok to play with your food.

JP Terlizzi
JP Terlizzi is a New York City visual artist whose work explores themes of memory, relationship and identity. His images are rooted in the personal and heavily influenced around the notion of home, legacy and family. He is curious about how the past relates to the present and how that impacts and shapes one’s identity. Born and raised in the farmlands of Central New Jersey, Terlizzi’s career spans 30 plus years as a creative director for a boutique agency specializing in retail design. He earned a BFA in communication design at the Kutztown University of Pennsylvania and has studied photography at the International Center of Photography School in New York and Maine Media College in Rockport, Maine.

In the NX Series, Krag uses guitar necks as the space to recreate the score of a rock and roll song that brings strong personal memories. He marks the notes with nails in the guitar’s fretboard and weaves color threads among them to represent the song’s flow. The guitar as an acoustic object does not exist anymore. The object is a soundless fragment of a broken instrument that — through a mnemonic image of the placement of fingers — is referencing a sound the viewer recreates in his mind.
