A woman in an unguarded moment. She’s mid-action, not posing, not inviting the gaze, just tending to herself. The tape, or the bandage, becomes a quiet gesture—protective, necessary, private. It suggests something before and something after, but we are only given this fragment.
The film itself interferes, refusing perfection, breaking down clarity. Colors shift, edges blur, time erodes. Untitled 03 (Saigon) is not about memory in the sentimental sense—it’s about the instability of perception. What we think we see. What we miss. What we impose onto an image that, in reality, has no obligation to tell us anything at all.
This isn’t an image asking to be understood. It’s asking if we can sit with uncertainty, with the half-told, with the rawness of a moment that is neither invitation nor confession—just being.
Stefanie Schneider received her MFA in Communication Design at the Folkwang Schule Essen, Germany. Her work has been shown at the Museum for Photography, Braunschweig, Museum für Kommunikation, Berlin, the Institut für Neue Medien, Frankfurt, the Nassauischer Kunstverein, Wiesbaden, Kunstverein Bielefeld, Museum für Moderne Kunst Passau, Les Rencontres d'Arles, Foto -Triennale Esslingen, Bombay Beach Biennale 2018.
