Tyler Shields' photographic style is characterized by bold, cinematic visuals that often resemble stills from a film. He shoots primarily on film, favoring its raw texture and natural imperfections over polished digital edits. A hallmark of Shields’ work is provocation—he frequently uses shocking or controversial elements such as fire, blood, nudity, or the destruction of luxury goods to challenge viewers and critique celebrity culture, consumerism, and excess. Beauty and danger often coexist in his imagery, where high fashion collides with chaos.
Shields also employs repetition of motifs—legs paired with luxury cars, burning designer items, and vintage Americana—to create a strong visual identity. Every detail in his compositions is deliberate, from lighting and props to the precise positioning of his subjects, contributing to the striking, often unsettling impact of his work.
Hailed as “the Andy Warhol of his generation” by Sotheby’s, TYLER SHIELDS is a celebrated fine art photographer renowned for his daring and provocative images. Originally a world-champion inline skater, Shields brought his relentless drive to photography, soon becoming one of the youngest artists featured at Sotheby’s. His work has been showcased in prominent galleries worldwide, from Los Angeles to London, and he has collaborated with major brands including Armani and Adidas. Known for pushing boundaries, his shoots often involve high-risk setups, from models holding flaming luxury items to posing with live lions—each shot crafted with his signature intensity and vision.

Tyler Shields
Born in Jacksonville, Florida, and now recognized as “Hollywood’s favorite photographer,” L.A.–based contemporary artist and filmmaker Tyler Shields has evolved from the “bad boy of photography” with his controversial blood-stained photographic series featuring Lindsay Lohan to the more subtle color-explosive poesy of his “Chromatic” series, and his work featuring Francesca Eastwood (Clint’s daughter) to the fire-starting, bag-sawing antics of a $100,00 Hermès Birkin bag, to the stoic magic Surrealism of “Suspense,” a project shot in the New Mexico desert featuring Franseca Eastwood, Emma Roberts and Lydia Hearst — Shield’s art captures the emergence of an artist and his medium into a more mature overture and output. He is an American image-maker.
Born in 1982, Shields’ work derives from a unique history directing music videos and working with the legendary skateboarding icon Tony Hawk. Mr. Shields has produced images that play with notions of the gaze, power structures, hyper-realism, iconoclastic tendencies and cinematographic practice. He has worked with a roster of ranking members of Hollywood including Mischa Barton, Emma Roberts, Aaron Paul, Demi Lovato, Juno Temple, Shiloh Fernandez and more. Tyler’s output involves various mediums from book publishing The Dirty Side of Glamour in 2011, to a novel entitled Smartest Man, and a cluster of solo shows.
