About the Item

Watson´s Isle of Skye has a dreamlike, abstract quality created through what seems to be intentional motion blur or a long exposure technique. The center of the image features a bold stripe of deep blue water that cuts through darker banks on either side. The right bank shows hints of warm orange or amber tones, while the left bank appears darker and more muted. The sky above is a deep, rich blue. The whole imagery creates a gloomy, eerie and mysterious atmosphere, perfectly fitting for the dark autumn and winter months. From the iconic Hitchcock series in the 70s to complex fashion shoots for Iris van Herpen, Watson has paved the way for fine art photography like few others. For almost half a century, Albert Watson has been an indispensable figure in the Olympus of fashion photography and has created more than 100 Vogue covers. Mick Jagger, Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, or David Bowie - Watson has had everyone of note in front of his lens. Albert Watson
Albert Watson studied graphic design before becoming a photographer. His manipulation of contrast and superior sense of composition distinguish his portraits of celebrities and models. With an emphasis on the formal and sculptural properties of his sitters' bodies, Watson's images have not only appeared in numerous American and European fashion magazines but also in museum and gallery exhibitions.
In Watson’s famous nude photographs of Kate Moss taken on her 18th birthday in 1993, the model's spine pokes through the skin of her curved back, like the scales of a dinosaur, while the right side of her body is entirely shaded. In a 1989 portrait, Naomi Campbell's head is silhouetted against a grey surface, while her bare shoulders and the arch of her back are illuminated. In 2010, he was awarded the Royal Photographic Society's Centenary Medal and Honorary Fellowship.
