ABOUT THIS PIECE : Photograph taken by Ryan Strand Greenberg This flashing neon sign was original installed on the roof of a derelict building in Philadelphia. It cycles through the statements “All the light you see is from the past” and “All you see is past” before turning off completely. It speaks to the fact that light takes time to travel, so by the time it reaches your eyes, everything you are seeing is technically already in the past. The farther out into space we look, the farther back in time we can see.
ABOUT THIS ARTIST: Alicia Eggert is an American artist based in Texas whose work focuses on the relationship between language, image and time. The motivation behind most of her work is a sincere desire to understand the linear, finite and fleeting nature of human life within a cyclical and seemingly infinite universe. Her artwork often takes the form of flashing neon signs that inspire a sense of wonder. The signs are installed and photographed in different locations around the world, allowing each site to uniquely influence the work’s meaning. Alicia’s artworks have been exhibited internationally, at venues such as the CAFA Art Museum in Beijing, the Triennale Design Museum in Milan, the Amsterdam Light Festival in Amsterdam, and Galeria Fernando Santos in Porto, Portugal.
PACKAGING: 30x40" and 40x60" prints are shipped in a special fortified tube to guard against bending or damage. Framed 30x40" prints are shipped via FedEx in a bespoke cardboard box with a fitted interior armature for the frame. We do not frame the extra large, 40x60" print sizes because they are too large to ship without risking damage.
