About the Item
Kate Breakey's artistic process is an act of investigation – a passionate attempt to establish an understanding of the natural world – a version that incorporates both intellectual and emotional comprehension which are sometimes incompatible, and distill them into a visual language of images where they can be contemplated.
Making images of these things is a natural extension of being fascinated, touch, or intrigued by them. Breakey claims that this process of seeing, and recording transforms her. It is how she expresses wonder and love, a form of dedication. It is also a record of her life and desire to connect herself to all other things, the acknowledgement of a search for explanation, for meaning and significances, a primal longing to grasp things which are unknowable.
These images are archival pigment prints which have been hand colored by the artist. Each image is printed in an edition of 20, and the gold leaf and frame varies slightly between each piece.

Bent Tree, Torrey Pines
By Anne C. Weary
Located in Dallas, TX
“Anne Weary, who grew up as a Texas cowgirl, is at home in the outdoors and knows its ways and its language. There is a sort of very quiet but very powerful mysticism in her work, a sense of presence that goes quite beyond words,” writes poet and University of Texas at Dallas professor Frederick Turner in the American Arts Quarterly.
Dallas born Weary studied under Olin Travis, Octavio Medellin and Chapman Kelley before earning a 4 year certificate from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts with awards for excellence in drawing. In 2008, Weary left Texas for a three year sabbatical in Southern California where she began drawing in Torrey Pines...
