About the Item

The soaring grandeur of the Chrysler Building's shining stainless steel Art Deco entrance is on full display in this Mitchell Funk photo. Usually, the entrance is somewhat dull-looking and in shadow, but Funk waited for a triumphal moment of illumination to get a scintillating, eye-popping view of it. In his image, the entrance looks as sparkling as it did when it first opened in 1930. A single figure appropriately dressed in black is seen to the lower right and gives scale to the setting. The image is part of a new epic exhibition, Mitchell Funk Photographs The Chrysler Building for 50 Years. The Chrysler Building is one of the most photographed buildings in the world. Yet Mitchell Funk's photographs of it are anything but a tourist snapshot. For 50 years, Funk has been celebrating and rediscovering it visually in a way that exemplifies the innovative spirit of its creators. The work is signed dated and numbered 3/15 lower right recto, with other sizes available, and it's unframed and printed later. Printed on Hahnemühle Fine Art paper Mitchell Funk is a pioneer of " Color Photography" In 1970 he participated in one the first " Color Photography" shows at a major museum.
