About the Item

An unobstructed view of lower Manhattan from the observation deck of 30 Rock is obstructed by a figure in a solid red hooded jacket. The figure becomes a dominant abstract shape in the composition. That is the point of the photograph. Mitchell Funk shoots a tourist location unlike any tourist photograph. In the left hand corner, the shining steel Art Deco spire of the Chrysler Building emerges from behind the Bauhaus-inspired Walter Gropius Met Life/PanAm Building. Wherever you look, you see the Chrysler Building. Signed dated lower right, numbered on lr recto. 3/15 printed later, unframed. other sizes available. Printed on Hahnemühle Fine Art paper Mitchell Funk is a pioneer of " Color Photography" In 1970 he participated in one the first " Color Photography" shows at a major museum. Brooklyn Museum, show "Images en Couleur" . 1971 Included he was included in the visionary book "Frontiers of Photography" Time Life. Color ! American Photography Transformed. Amon Carter Museum. He has had more than 50 Photography Magazine Covers and has had covers on Newsweek, New York Magazine, Fortune, and Life Magazine among others.
