About the Item
The artworks capture a feather balanced amidst a starry void, inviting contemplation and reflection. A feather down drifts softly, suspended in a mysterious, dream-like expanse of blue...
‘The work, building on themes developed over fifty years, tries to find the awe-inspiring in that which is easily passed by. It contains issues of fragility, beauty and transience in the landscape: marks and scars left by man and the potential threat to the few remaining areas of wilderness. Looking at the micro and thinking about the macro, I aim for each print to be a beautiful, irresistible, thought provoking object.’ – Paul Kenny
Paul Kenny (b. 1951) is a British artist and photographer based in Newcastle upon Tyne. He studied Fine Art at Newcastle upon Tyne, graduating in 1975, and has spent the past five decades exploring and evolving his photographic practice. Though rooted in traditional photographic processes, his work has adapted alongside technological shifts, embracing the transition from analog to digital, black and white to color, and still to moving image. He has experimented with a wide range of methods, including the use of scanners, light-boxes, and studio-based techniques, while maintaining a commitment to photography as his core medium. Kenny’s work is held in major public and private collections such as the Victoria and Albert Museum, the National Gallery of Scotland, Deutsche Bank, and Goldman Sachs. He has published three monographs and exhibited widely across the UK. In 2000, he was made a Fellow of The Ballinglen Foundation in North West Mayo, Ireland.

Truth - the honesty seed, Print on Glass, hand gilded with Lemon and Moon Gold

Truth, 2017
Print on Museum Glass, Hand gilded with Lemon and Moon Gold
31 x 31 cm/ 12.2 x 12.2 in (custom framed)
Edition of 5
This print is from a series of images made from a collection of honesty seeds gathered at the end of baking hot summer... The papery enclosures are like parchment through which the light filters with a pale gold delicacy."
The beauty of the pieces printed on glass are truly revealed when seen in the flesh, which shimmer in the daylight and change constantly as different light sources are reflected off the print.
"My fascination with colour goes back a long way. One of my earliest creative recollections has me sitting at a table endlessly mixing paints in a valiant but ultimately futile attempt to 'invent a new colour'. It was an imperative that kept me occupied for some time as I recall. The result was always the same - and unedifying fudge of pale peach and silver." - Valda Bailey...

Dear One Threads A Cocoon - Unique Hand-coloured Print in Walnut frame
Located in London, GB
Hand-coloured portrait of a human larvae bursting out of their cocoon, immobilised in marble.
Representative of a safe and isolating space, the cocoon is both a cage and a shelter. This tale is a
study of transformation, of breaking apart and coming back together as the larvae emerges from
the silken threads.
Taken from The Sialia Marbles, a series of portraits containing ephemeral human sculptures taken between 2016-19. Together these works act as tales contained in a fictional sculpture hall, in direct reaction to Andre Malraux’s 1947 Le Musee Imaginaire (Museum Without Walls).
During the beginning of the 'Museum Age' in the 18th century , writer Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe discussed mythical sculpture...
