Telemon Editions Limited seal within the image lower left. Arches watermark lower right. Information printed on verso as issued. Reference: (the 1960 original) - ULAE 4; Field 5. Provenance: private collection - West Hollywood, CA. Sheet size: 22.5" x 17.5". Image size: 9.25" x 13.75". Has been stored away since its inception, in excellent condition. Rare. This facsimile artwork (made by ULAE under the supervision of the artist Jasper Johns himself) poses an excellent collecting opportunity for Johns' fans on a budget. Tatyana Grosman started Telamon Editions Limited in 1970 as a commercial venture of Universal Limited Art Editions. It was closed upon her death in 1982. Among her initial projects was a facsimile catalogue of Jasper Johns prints published by ULAE. The format for the catalogue was 22.5 x 17.5 inches and was to be printed in an edition of 300 on the same paper as the original limited editions prints. A hand-fed offset press was purchased in 1971 to proof and print the project. 13 facsimiles were printed on the hand-fed offset press by Bill Goldston and James V. Smith under the supervision of the artist before 1982 when it was abandoned for the complete catalogue raisonne published in 1993. Other than their size, the paper, color and printing sequence match the original edition. The facsimiles are not signed by the artist and the Telamon Editions Limited seal appears within the images to ensure no confusion with the original editions. Jasper Johns (born May 15, 1930) is an American painter, sculptor and printmaker associated with Abstract expressionism, Neo-Dada, and Pop art. Johns is well known for his depictions of the American flag and other US-related topics. Johns' works regularly receive millions of dollars at sale and auction, including a reported $110 million sale in 2010. At multiple times works by Johns have held the title of most paid for a work by a living artist. Johns has received many honors throughout his career, including receipt of the National Medal of Arts in 1990, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2011.
