ALLAN D’ARCANGELO (1930-1998) An American artist and printmaker, famous for his paintings of highways and road signs. He is known for his works that reflect deep perspectival vistas in a simplified, flat plane—that is, the view seen from the driver’s seat if one was to drive along a highway. D’Arcangelo’s success landed his paintings in permanent collections in many famous galleries and museums including the Tate Gallery and the Whitney Museum of American Art. He remains one of the most favored and widely collected highway imagery artists to ever exist.
