Bernard Séjourné Chateau Mouton Rothschild Wine Label (Hand Signed & Inscribed), 1989 Wine Label Print Signed “To John A. Powers, Chairman, To my dear Jack, with undying friendship and admiration… to you and Eileen, Philippine de Rothschild.” Held in original vintage frame - glass removed. (frame vintage) For wine (and art) collectors around the world - this is a must have. This beautiful print shows Bernard Séjourné's trio of masks rising from the dark for the label of Mouton Rothschild 1986. It is one of the finest examples of his work. It is framed and in very good condition and is, exceptionally inscribed to John (Jack) A. Powers (former President of McCann-Erickson in Europe and America, and later Chairman and COO of Heublein, Inc., now Diageo and a major art collector), by the legendary Philippine de Rothschild. Baroness Philippine de Rothschild was the owner of the French winery Château Mouton Rothschild. She was the only daughter of the vintner Baron Philippe de Rothschild, a member of the Rothschild banking dynasty. The inscription reads: “To John A. Powers, Chairman, To my dear Jack, with undying friendship and admiration… to you and Eileen, Philippine de Rothschild.” Measurement: Framed: 22 × 17 × 1/2 inches Artwork: 21 1/2 x 16 1/2 inches Provenance: Estate of John A. Powers Bernard Sejourne Biography Bernard Séjourné (1947-1994) was born in Haiti where his family were planters. He studied painting and the history of art first in Jamaica and later in the United States, still preserving close ties with his island home. Mysterious, sophisticated and very different from the naive style favoured by other Haitian painters, Séjourné’s work holds echoes of some ancient culture: women with long graceful necks and half-closed eyes; seashells and tropical flowers; the subtle charm of pastel colours and smooth, wave-like shapes. His trio of masks rising from the dark in their “white negritude” for the label of Mouton Rothschild 1986 is one of the finest examples of his work. -Courtesy Chateau Mouton Philippine Mathilde Camille, Baroness de Rothschild (22 November 1933 – 23 August 2014) was the owner of the French winery Château Mouton Rothschild. She acted under the stage name Philippine Pascal (imprinting on her paternal grandfather Henri de Rothschild who also used the last name Pascal to write plays.). She was the only daughter of the vintner Baron Philippe de Rothschild, a member of the Rothschild banking dynasty.
