The process involved in producing a print starts with an observational pen drawing of the subject being portrayed. Once this image is finished, it is then scanned at a high resolution and taken into photoshop. Here Clare will produce the different colours featured in the print through a series of layers with the any patterns that are presented being created especially for the piece. Once all the layers are achieved the next stage is producing the screen print. Each layer of colour is exposed onto a silkscreen by using a photo sensitive emulsion, creating a stencil on the screen. Using a screen printing bed that secures the screen in place, each colour is printed by pushing ink through the screen and registering it in the appropriate place, layering each layer until the final finished outcome seen here. All prints are hand printed by the artist onto somerset satin paper 300gms.
Clare Halifax graduated from Loughborough University with a BA hons in Printed Textile Design. This was followed by an MA in Multi Disciplinary Printmaking from UWE which saw her work develop into Limited Edition Prints. Focusing on cityscapes, landscapes, botanicals and animals. Within each piece of work, design, pattern and colour, play an important part, adding depth and decoration to create a unique overall effect. Clients have included V&A Museum, ‘Coast’ Magazine, Liberty’s, Tate Online, Farrow & Ball, John Lewis and the Berkley Group. Clare currently resides in London where she continues to be influenced by her everyday environment.

Clare Halifax, artist, joins Wychwood Art selling art online and in their art gallery in Deddington. Clare Halifax graduated from the University of Loughborough in 2000 with a BA Hons in Printed Textile design and went on to sell her work internationally to the fashion and interior markets. In 2009 Clare Halifax completed an MA in Multi-disiciplinary printmaking at the University of the West of England, which saw her work develop into the production of limited edition prints and ceramic pieces. Having grown up in the South West of England, the inspiration for Clare’s work comes from the buildings that surrounded her and nostalgic reminisces of places and items of interest. Within each image, design, pattern and colour plays an important part, adding depth and decoration to build an aesthetically pleasing overall effect. Clare Halifax currently resides in London where she continues to be influenced by her everyday environment.

Artist Commentary:
I have been asked numerous times by my loyal customers to create more holiday winter cards of my paintings. As I was looking outside my window in this month of March, the snowy scenes in front of me were an ideal inspiration for me. And to make things even better for my creative juices, Paris had just been covered a few weeks before by a couple inches of snow. This happens very rarely and the whole city was paralysed. Parisians were unhappy, as always, but Paris under the snow is magnificent. I asked my good parisian friend to share with me the pictures she took of Paris under the snow. Between the winter view from my window and my friend’s pictures, I had enough material to immerse myself into this project. In 3 weeks, I created 8 paintings and I had the best time of my life!!! I wish I could do that all the time. I painted holiday lights, ornaments, some snow, and I even had an american cardinal in snowy Paris!!! I felt right at home between my 2 countries: France and the US! What wintery scenes or holiday scenes do you find magnificent?
