This is a hand-colored folio sized lithograph entitled "Calothorax Yarrelli", Yarrell's Wood-star Hummingbirds by John Gould, published in his "A Monograph of the Trochilidae, or Family of Humming-birds", published in London in 1850. The print, which was drawn by Gould and Henry Richter and lithographed by Hullmandel and Walton, depicts three green, white, grey, and a little blue colored hummingbirds amid green cactus plants with white and pink colored flowers. Golden Eye Duck: an Original 1st Edition Hand Colored Audubon Bird Lithograph
Located in Alamo, CA
An original rare and extremely collectible first edition John James Audubon hand colored royal octavo lithograph entitled "Golden Eye Duck", No. 82, Plate 406, from Audubon's "Birds of America". It was lithographed, printed and colored by J. T. Bowen and published in Philadelphia between 1840-1844. It depicts male and female Golden Eye ducks in flight.
This original rare first edition hand colored Audubon bird lithograph is in excellent condition. The sheet measures 6.25" x 10". The original text pages, pages 362-366, from Audubon's publication are included.
John James Audubon (1785-1851) was a naturalist and artist. He was initially unsuccessful financially prior to the publication of his famous work “The Birds of America”, spending time in debtor’s prison, once stabbing a disgruntled investor in self-defense. However, his obsession with birds and art motivated him to persist in his goal of documenting every bird in America via his watercolor paintings and publishing his works for all to enjoy. Audubon's first illustrations were published in a large elephant folio size. Due to their expense they were purchased in rather small numbers by the wealthy. To reach a larger audience, Audubon, with the help of his sons and J. T. Bowen, published a smaller octavo sized lithograph version, which were much more affordable.
With the success of his bird projects, Audubon then turned his attention to four-legged animals. He explored the Missouri River in 1843 sketching the four-legged animals he encountered in their natural setting. His expedition covered some of the same regions recently explored by Lewis and Clark, traveling from present day Alaska to Mexico. Audubon realized that this was an opportunity to document these animals in the still relatively pristine American wilderness, before man encroached on their environment.
Between 1845 and 1848, Audubon and his sons John Woodhouse Audubon and Victor Gifford Audubon produced a set of elephant folio sized lithographs that were primarily engraved and hand colored by J. T. Bowen in Philadelphia. The publication, which included text descriptions of the animals was published 3 years before Audubon died. As with the birds, this was followed by a three-volume set of 155 octavo-sized plates entitled “The Quadrupeds of North America” completed and published by Audubon’s sons, John, Jr. and Victor.
Audubon prints continue to be popular and a wise investment. The double elephant folio set...

Pintail
Located in San Francisco, CA
This artwork titled "Pintail" c.1990 is a color lithograph by noted Wild life American artist Christopher Forrest, b.1946. It is hand signed, titled and numbered 86/300 in pencil by the artist. The image size is 17.5 x 22.85 inches, framed size is 27.35 x 32.5 inches. Custom framed in a oak frame, with light brown matting. It is in excellent condition
About the artist:
Born in Trenton, New Jersey, 1946 Interested in art from the age of 7, Christopher Forrest still speaks fondly of a set of colored pencils presented to him then by his parents; At 11, he won his first award for painting and started exhibiting in galleries. Along with his interest in art grew a keen attraction for the outdoors and the wildlife which thrived there. After considering schooling in art, Chris chose to study civil engineering. Upon graduation from Virginia Polytechnic Institute, Chris began a career as a commissioned officer in the United States Army Corps of Engineers. The Army provided Chris the opportunity to observe wildlife from the swamps of Florida to the lakes of Quebec, in addition to Europe and Viet Nam. In 1973, the Army sent Chris to graduate school at North Carolina State University, at this time Chris started to paint wildlife. Chris resigned from the Army in 1978 and took a position as an artist with Evergreen Publishing Co. He has produced more than thirty original graphic editions for Evergreen. His original graphics are handled by some 350 galleries in North America. He is currently General Manager at Evergreen. His work and articles about his work have appeared in numerous wildlife and art publications. Chris strongly believes in wildlife conservation and is a member of many conservationist organizations. His donated prints have raised a great deal of money for Ducks Unlimited, Newjersey, Audubon and Ward Foundations. In 1980 he realized one of his major professional goals. He was elected to membership in the Society of Animal Artists. "Creating a painting or graphic is an exciting adventure and challenge for me. Starting with the observation of the animal in the wilderness, I then approach the painting with the attitude that it will be my finest work." Marsh Hare: Original 19th Century 1st Octavo Ed. Audubon Hand-colored Lithograph
Located in Alamo, CA
This is an original 19th century John James Audubon hand-colored first octavo edition lithograph entitled "Marsh Hare", No. 4, Plate XVIII, 18, from Audubon's "Quadrupeds of North America", printed and colored by Nagel & Weingaertner and published in New York in 1849. It depicts a pair of Marsh Hares/rabbits, presumably a male and a female, lying on grass, nose to nose, with plants in the background.
This antique hand-colored Audubon quadruped lithograph has a few faint spots, but the print is otherwise in very good condition. The sheet measures 7" high and 10.5" wide. The descriptive text pages, 151-156, from Audubon's original publication are included.
John James Audubon (1785-1851) was a naturalist and artist. He was initially unsuccessful financially prior to the publication of his famous work “The Birds of America”, spending time in debtor’s prison...

Graham Gallery
This late 1960s vintage Graham Gallery poster is hand signed by Nancy Graves on the front. It was published on the occasion of her "Camels" exhibition - a groundbreaking show in the artist's young life, as she died at age 54 of breast cancer. (People forget how brave she was, a sharp counterpoint to the style of the macho Minimalists of the era, like her ex husband Richard Serra.) The following year -- in 1969 - Nancy Graves became the first woman ever to have a solo show at the Whitney Museum.
We've never seen another of these posters anywhere else in the world - let alone one hand signed by Nancy Graves.

About Nancy Graves:
Nancy Graves (1940–1995) was born in Massachusetts. Her father worked as an accountant at the local Berkshire Museum, where art was displayed with natural history. He encouraged his daughter’s early interests in art, nature and anthropology — interests which endured for the rest of her life. After graduating from Vassar College with a degree in English Literature, Graves attended Yale University, where she earned both a B.A. and an M.A. in Art, studying alongside Chuck Close, Robert Mangold and Brice Marsden.
Following Yale, she won a prestigious Fulbright Scholarship in 1964, and began studying painting in Paris — where she also married sculptor Richard Serra, whom she had met at Yale (and from whom she would divorce in 1970). Moving on to Florence soon after, she would live a somewhat nomadic life, spending time in countries that included Morocco, Kashmir, India, Egypt, Peru, Australia and Canada.
From a point of view that she described as “objective,” Graves transformed scientific sources, such as maps and diagrams, into artworks by re-producing their complex visual information in detailed paintings and drawings. Investigating the intersections between art and scientific disciplines, Graves created compelling, formally rigorous, yet ultimately expressive works of art that examine concepts of repetition, variation, verisimilitude, and the presentation and perception of visual information.
Based in SoHo, New York, Graves gained prominence in the late 1960s as a post-Minimalist artist for innovative camel, fossil, totem, and bone sculptures that were hand formed and assembled from unusual materials such as fur, burlap, canvas, plaster, latex, wax, steel, fiberglass and wood. Made in reaction to Pop and Minimalism, these works reference archaeological sites, anthropology, and natural science displays. Suspended from the ceiling or clustered directly on the floor, these early sculptures also engage with Conceptualist ideas of display. For her Whitney Museum presentation Graves exhibited three seemingly realistic sculptures of camels in an installation that evoked taxidermy specimens and questioned issues of verisimilitude in art and science, particularly in light of their hand patched and painted fur surfaces. The exhibition elicited wide spread critical responses and established her artistic significance.
After intensely engaging with sculpture in the early 1970s, Graves returned to painting. Her detailed pointillist canvasses re-produced — in paint — images culled from documentary nature photographs, NASA satellite recordings, and Lunar maps...
