Old or young, it's never too late for adventure... Inspired by Edward Lear's poem 'The Owl and the Pussy-Cat'. This etching began as a rough sketch which was then redrawn onto a grounded zinc plate using an etching needle. The tones have been created by adding an aquatint and the plate is inked and printed by hand for each print in the edition. Materials: etching inks, Somerset Satin paper 300gsm

A handmade etching and aquatint which began as a rough sketch which was worked directly onto a zinc plate. Most of the tones created by adding an aquatint, have been kept light, giving the impression of an ink drawing. Rebecca Denton enjoys combining this ancient printmaking technique with fresh ideas. This piece is inspired by William Blake's poem 'TheTyger'. I design the image in my sketchbook and then transfer it to lino, which I hand-carve. Each print is handprinted in my studio using a roller press. As each print is individually handprinted, there may be slight variations in tone and colour. This print is made using gold oil-based ink as a background and then printed over with the tiger in dark purple ink. Each print has the title, edition number and my signature hand-written beneath the image.
