About the Item
Little Man Big Man Putin / Trump, Cleon Peterson - Gold. Silkscreen with dimensions 24 × 18 in from Edition of 150.
Cleon Peterson is an LA based artist whose chaotic and violent paintings show clashing figures symbolizing a struggle between power and submission in the fluctuating architecture of contemporary society. The imagery of Cleon Peterson is not only strong because of its striking visual quality and its relevance to our world today. Although all too easily associated with the barbaric sectarian violence in the Middle East and escalating excrescence that is the current geopolitical turmoil, it’s also deeply rooted in Western cultural history, from the classic Greco-Roman vases depicting warriors and battles, to the marvelous decapitation paintings of Caravaggio and violent masterpieces of Goya.
Our gallery takes pride in providing only the highest quality pieces, stored and shipped with acid free tissue paper. Stored flat, with no signs of wear. Cleon Peterson
Cleon Peterson’s bold, stylized paintings and prints depict a world of brute, authoritarian violence and caustic debauchery. The artist draws on fine-art influences such as Leon Golub and Paul McCarthy, as well as the aesthetics of Greek pottery, graphic design, and political propaganda posters. His striking compositions feature characters packed into dense, kinetic scenes of high-contrast conflict. Peterson works with a spare color palette, often limiting himself to black, white, red, and yellow. He received his MFA from the Cranbrook Academy of Art before going on to exhibit in New York, Los Angeles, Miami, London, Paris, San Francisco, and beyond. His work has fetched five-figure prices on the secondary market. By explicitly depicting acts of violence, Peterson hopes to highlight the overreach of authoritarian power in contemporary society.

"A Woman Who Other Women Wish Wouldn't Come To The Parties"
Located in North Adams, MA
"I would look up at the ceiling, imagine myself as the character in her dilemma and draw – on napkins, scrap paper, the backs of paper menus. The rule was, I had to write the subject down first, and when I looked down, I was finished.
Not all the drawings work, of course. At times I go right off the page. At times they are incoherent or emotionally flat. The truth is, the drawings only work when I succeed in becoming the woman in the drawing in my own head – I need to get under her skin, feel what she feels. "

John “CRASH” Matos and Eric Orr met for the first time as high school students. Although the exact location is unclear, both agree that it would have been at either Fashion Moda or the Writers’ Bench at 149th Street and Grand Concourse.
Founded by Stefan Eins in 1978, Fashion Moda began as a “cultural concept” whose principles revolved around the fact that art can be made by anyone, anywhere and art should be accessible to anyone, anywhere. Located in the South Bronx, Fashion Moda embraced new talent and encouraged creative production across all mediums. The gallery has been credited as a major force behind the recognition of graffiti writing as an art form and it played a pivotal role in a community where Hip Hop was rapidly emerging. CRASH was only 19 years old when he curated “Graffiti Art Success for America” at Fashion Moda and his varied experiences at the gallery would later inspire his founding of WALLWORKS.
The 149th Street Writers’ Bench, located at the back of the uptown...
