About the Item
The Escape is an original lithograph artwork realized by Antonio Scordia in 1945. Edition of 25/80 prints. Hand-signed in pencil on the lower right; numbered on the lower left.
Good conditions.
The artwork represents two figures, in the front the nude one, resembles the Hermes, with his position of flying and his feet. The artwork is created through quick and confident strokes, in a well-balanced composition.
Antonio Scordia (Santa Fè, Argentina, 1918 - Rome, 1988) was an Italian painter. In 1921, he moved to Rome with his family where he attended the School of the Academy of France. In 1945, he exhibited for the first time in Rome and, in 1947, he moved to Argentina. In 1949, he went back to Europe (in Paris and in London). In 1952, he participated for the first time in the Venice Biennal. During the 1950s and the 1960s, he participated in important international expositions. Between 1965 and 1970, he lived in London and collaborated with Federico Fellini for the set design of the Satyricon. In 1976, the first important retrospective exhibition took place at the Palazzo Barberini. In the 1980s, he exhibited in Rome, and participated at the exhibitions Generazione Anni Dieci, Index, and L'Astratto Italiano e i suoi maestri degli anni '50.

Antonio Scordia
Antonio Scordia was born in Santa Fe, Argentina, in 1918. He was an Italian painter. In 1921, he moved to Rome with his family where he attended The Académie Française. In 1945, he exhibited for the first time in Rome and 1947, he moved to Argentina. In 1949, he went back to Europe, to Paris and London. In 1952, he participated for the first time in the Venice Biennale. During the 1950s and 60s, he participated in various important international expositions. Between 1965–70, he lived in London and collaborated with Federico Fellini for the set design of the Satyricon. In 1976, the first important retrospective exhibition took place at the Palazzo Barberini. During the 1980s he exhibited in Rome and participated in the show Generazione Anni Dieci in Rieti, in the show Index in Paternò and in the show L’Astratto Italiano. Scordia died in Rome in 1988.

ABOUT THIS WORK
The French economy boomed from 1921 until the Great Depression reached Paris in 1931. This period called 'Les années folles' or the 'Crazy Years', saw Paris reestablished as a capital of art, music, literature, and cinema. Paris in the 1920s and 1930s was the home and meeting place of some of the world's most prominent painters, sculptors, composers, dancers, poets, and writers. For those in the arts, it was, as Ernest Hemingway described it, "A moveable feast".
