Author Jacques Norvins published one of the most comprehensive and influential histories on the life and military career of Napoleon, trought the works of the most important engravers of the time.

In Russia, the French invasion of 1812 is better known as a patriotic war, which highlights the character that the struggle assumed, of Russian national and popular resistance against the foreigner.
By the end of the campaign, Napoleon's army - consisting of more than 600,000 soldiers, of which 450,000 were in the main mass led by the emperor - was reduced to just over 100,000 men. Losses amounted to 400,000 dead and missing; 100,000 prisoners
fell into Russian hands.
