About the Item

Artist Name: Barbara Kwasniewska Year: 1969 Medium Type: etching Size-Width Size-Height: 22.5'' x 30" inches Signed Edition Size: Signed, Titled, and Numbered 2/75 Barbabra Kwasniewska was born in 1931 in Varsovia, Poland. She studied painting at the Beaux-Arts Institute of Cracow, Poland. She then moved to Paris where she was married in 1958. Her printmaking studies were under Johnny Friedlaender at his atelier. She obtained Honorable Mention at the Ljubljana, Yugoslavia Biennale in 1961, and her work was selected to be shown at the Second Biennale of Paris. In 1963 she won first prize as a foreign painter, awarded by the Friends of the National Museum of Modern Art, Paris This artwork is a signed, limited-edition etching by Barbara Kwasniewska, created in 1969. The composition is characterized by bold, creating a striking contrast between organic shapes and geometric divisions of color. The dominant figure in the piece appears as a fluid, cream-colored silhouette that extends across the center, surrounded by a dynamic interplay of black, blue, pink, and orange. The placement of colors and forms suggests movement and balance, evoking a sense of harmony within the abstraction. Kwasniewska’s minimalist approach, combined with her use of vibrant yet restrained color blocking, gives the work a modernist aesthetic reminiscent of mid-century abstract and figurative art. The etching is signed and numbered in the lower corners, indicating its place in a limited series (2/75). The careful use of negative space and bold color juxtaposition invite the viewer to interpret the relationship between form and background, making this a compelling example of Kwasniewska’s distinctive artistic style.

1970 Signed Limited Edition Large Screen Print II
By Jimmy Ernst

Jimmy Ernst  Plate II - 1970 Print - Screen Print on Heavy Paper 28'' x 37'' inches Edition: Signed in pencil and numbered 24/125 Jimmy Ernst’s artwork was influenced by a number of powerful talents and vital currents in the art of his time. Son of Max Ernst, Jimmy drew upon the biomorphic and surreal compositions of his father, as well as Arp, Klee, André Breton, and Lyonel Feininger. His mature oil paintings, which emerged in the 1950s and 1960s, reflect the Atomic Age aesthetic of the period. Often, they resemble crystals or webs; many look like vast labyrinths and are interpreted as symbols of the unconscious mind. Ernst was always interested in spirituality and drew inspiration from indigenous American art...
