About the Item

An old sailor is shown at work on a what must be a huge sailing vessel. He's splicing, or joining ropes together -- probably still a useful skill in the mid-1930s when this print was made. Charles Pont was a master wood engraver and the extremely fine details of this ship and all it's fittings and gear are amazing. It is signed and titled. It is also numbered 20 over 100 indicating that 20 impressions have been printed but that the total planned edition is 100. In my opinion it is extremely unlikely that there are 100 or even 50 because it is not a common subject.
