About the Item
Triumph der Salome is a black and white héliogravure on cream-colored cardboard realized by Choisy Le Conin, pseudonym of Franz Von Bayros (Agram, 1866 – Vienna, 1924).
From Mappe, a portfolio of 50 original prints (héliogravure or cliché from watercolors, of which 14 are colored) made around 1921 by Choisy Le Conin, with a preface of von Rudolph Hans Bartsch and published by Ed. Strache, Wien, Prag, Leipzig.
This is the specimen n. 285 on a total circulation of 500 prints. Ours is the most complete original edition.
In perfect conditions, with a protective tissue with the title of the subject.
This beautiful and original print, represents the glorious triumph of Salome, the daughter of Herod Philip and Herodias famous for the dance she performed during the banquet of Herod Antipas, who granted her as a prize whatever she desired. So Salome asked the head of John the Baptist, who had blamed the incestuous union between Herodias and Herod Antipas. The mythological figure of this woman has inspired in addition to Franz Von Byros, numerous writers and musicians before him, from H. Heine in the Atoll Troll to Oscar Wilde in the drama Salomé (1891), from which the libretto for R. Strauss's Salome (1905) was taken. We should also mention the lyric narrative Salomè by E. de Castro (1896), and the choreographic action Tragédie de Salomé by F. Schmitt (1907).
This Modern artwork demonstrates the incredible knowledge of Von Byros and his graphics skills with a wide gradient of greys and his Nouveau style with a strong black contouring line.

Alphonse Mucha's Le Pater: "Hallowed Be Thy Name" 1899 sepia lithograph
By Alphonse Mucha
Located in Chicago, IL
Stone lithograph sepia plate of Hallowed Be Thy Name from Alphonse Mucha’s masterpiece of mysticism, Le Pater. Printed by F. Champenois, published by Henri Piazza in Paris in an edition of 510, 1899.
“Le Pater is the perfect convergence of three important movements at the close of the 19th century: Art Nouveau, Mysticism, and Religion. Art Nouveau, through its respect and honor of Nature, promotes the idea of a spirit of energy coursing through all things–a tenet of Mysticism–that finds foundation in the traditions of Mucha's personal relationship with the imagery of Religion. Le Pater gave Mucha a venue to communicate his beliefs specifically through his unique approach to Art and the coded language he had been learning through his devotion to Masonic teachings. He combined the aesthetics of Medieval manuscripts...
