About the Item

English Title (short version): Antique marble vase in the Gallery of the Palazzo Barberini Artist proof, printed on contemporary paper, large margins, representing an “antique marble vase in the gallery of the palazzo Barberini” as he reveals in the higher note, where Piranesi points out the provenance and location of the object. The artwork is dedicated to “Sir Tommaso, Manzel Talbot, English Chevalier”. Signed on plate “Cavaliere Piranesi F.” on lower left corner. Excellent conditions, lightly browned paper, with normal foxing and stains, left margin slightly damaged, higher margin with binding holes. Giovanni Battista Piranesi Undoubtedly Piranesi was one of the most important engravers in 18th century even if he was well-known as an architect and an archaeologist: the greatest engraver in the period from Rembrandt a Goya. The generations after him have continued to imagine the Ancient Rome as the artist has portrayed his magnificent in "Vedute". References: L.
