About the Item

Handcoloured portrait of nymph Daphne, immobilised in marble, as she is transformed into a laurel tree. Birthed in Greek Mythology, Daphne is associated with bodies of freshwater and is an unwilling object of the god Apollo’s desire. Taken from The Sialia Marbles, a series of portraits containing ephemeral human sculptures taken between 2016-19. Together these works act as tales contained in a fictional sculpture hall, in direct reaction to Andre Malraux’s 1947 Le Musee Imaginaire (Museum Without Walls). Original title: Daphne II, 2019 Hand coloured Archival Giclée Photographic Print on Fine Art Photo Rag (Cotton) paper 30.5 x 40.5 cm Unframed but a variety of framing can be available upon request Unique Series: The Sialia Marbles Signed and dated on verso About the artist: Katie Eleanor (b.1993) is a photographic artist living and working in London. She studied Photographic Arts at University of Westminster, graduating in 2015. Her practice revolves around illustrating enigmatic narratives that bridge the gap between fantasy and reality. Once she has a concept for her stories, she paints the performer(s), dresses them up and creates the sets to photograph them. Using analog photography and contemporary printing techniques, the resulting black and white prints are then meticulously hand- coloured by the artist. Katie's work has received press by The Royal Photographic Society, and her fashion stories have been published by magazines such as Hunger and Notion. Her latest body of work, The Sialia Marbles, presented at MMX Gallery, is her second exhibition in the gallery and her first solo show.

Otherworldly lovers, immobilised in marble, Dancing in blooming Garden
Located in London, GB
Handcoloured portrait of otherworldly lovers, immobilised in marble, dancing in blooming meadows. A whimsical tale of adoration, Ursa and her spiritual partner take visual cues from Titania and Bottom in Dieterle and Reinhartd’s 1936 interpretation of A Midsummer Nights Dream. Ophelia # 5, hand painted, mixed media portrait photography on paper, framed
By Rosie Emerson
Located in Dallas, TX
This gorgeous artwork on paper was created initially with a screen print base of the model, then Rosie hand finishes the work with a unique splash and painted composition. Some call them Unique Prints. The base image is only used 12 times and this is the AP Rosie Emerson, born in 1981, is a contemporary artist working almost exclusively on representing the female form. Emerson’s figures draw reference from archetypes old and new, from Artemis to the modern day super model, each solitary figure, an allegory of her own fantasy. Interested in surface, the interplay between photography and painting. Emerson’s works are playful constructs; Photography is used, not as a device for capturing reality but for creating romanticised optical illusions. Inspired by her love of theatre, performance, shrines and rituals, she uses lighting, costume, set and prop making, alongside printmaking and painting to create other worldly one off pieces. Her photography is inspired by both the drama of the baroque, and ethereal qualities of Pre Raphaelite works. Other important influences include late medieval and renaissance paintings, Japanese prints, and magical realist literature. Emerson’s screen...
