About the Item

Etching Signed (lower right) and dedicated ‘To Carmencita, 1939’ (lower left) From edition of 75 13cm x 18cm (plate size), (40cm x 44cm framed) Cadmus was an American artist known for his satirical paintings, drawings, and prints of American social life, often using the classical technique of egg tempera. His work, which combined realism with social critique and eroticism, frequently caused controversy. This work is often associated with his time in Provincetown. The artwork is one in a series of depictions of figures in and around the beach setting, with other related works such as "Two Boys on a Beach, No. 2" and "Provincetown". His work (including copies of this print) is contained in many public collections, including the Whitney Museum & Smithsonian Museum of American Art.
